About GRANDPA #259

#259 GRANDPA (Shih Tzu)/#260 GRANDMA (Shih Tzu/Japanese Chin X) New Philadelphia, OH - Candler, FL

GRANDPA #259, a 15 y/o 10# male Shih Tzu and GRANDMA, a 13 y/o 7# female ShihTzu/Japanese Chin X were rescued from a dark trailer where they had spent all their lives. They were taken by rescuers to the home of Operation Roger Secretary Cynthia S for several days for evaluation before heading south to their new home in Candler, FL, at Rainbow Ranch Pet Retirement Home with Heather and Theresa.

Two drivers assisted in this transfer, Josh W and his son who pu them up in Carrolton, OH, kept them a couple nights, then transferred the duo to driver Danny Joe W who delivered them to Heather.

THE FOLLOWING EXCERPT WAS FOUND ON THE RAINBOW RANCH PET RETIREMENT HOME WEBSITE:

Finally, we received Sandy and Danny - they didn't have names at their backyard breeder's facility. What they did have was a camper shell to live in with 18 other dogs! The operation was closed down by the authorities in their Ohio community as a cruelty case. Little Sandy, named for the Humane Society's representative who facilitated their transfer here, is a tiny Shih Tzu who looks more like a Japanese Chin. She has a "dead" leg that we will probably have removed for her comfort. The leg is the result of an old untreated femoral fracture at the hip. She is 17 years old and was bred way too much! Unlike most puppy mill breeding stock, both Sandy and Danny are very cuddly and people-oriented! Her little pal is Danny, named for the Operation Roger trucker who brought them safely from Ohio to Florida. Danny is an adorable little Shih Tzu with KCS (keratoconjunctiva sicca) also known as dry eye. His sight is failing but with care we should be able to stop the progression of blindness. More information and pictures of the new kids (we are full now!!!) will be posted on this site under Animals. Welcome new residents!
