SMILEY # 219, a Black lab, 3-4 y/o, 60#, Male has made it from Bartlesville, OK, to his new home in Cambridge, VT, thanks to team driver Miles and B.J. F.
Smiley was found as a stray in April of this year. When the tremendous rains fell in Oklahoma in July, a volunteer from VT came down to help. In the process she became attached to three of the dogs. Returning home, she watched all three on the internet until she saw all but Smiley had found homes and his time was running out. Determined not to let Smiley be euthanized, she decided to adopt him and began paying his boarding fees until he could be transported.
Miles and B.J. found Smiley to be very friendly, smart, obedient, and obviously had been well trained. Once he got the hang of getting in and out of the truck, he then would do it on his own. B.J. reports Smiley would even look back at her to get permission to get on the bed. He would take treats from their hands very tenderly.
Smiley traveled by car from Bartlesville to Tulsa where he met his ride and also their team leaders Chris & Brandy P at a truck stop. His new Mom drove down from Cambridge, VT, to Aneonia, NJ. Miles and B.J. arrived ahead of time and were out walking Smiley. They report he walked to the edge of the grass and stood "looking left" as if he was expecting someone he knew. Indeed, his new Mom did arrive from the left and the reunion was tremendous. Smiley recognized her immediately and that was that. He knew he was home at last. A very, very happy puppy dogie.
The drivers reported on another unexpected development on this transport. Much to their surprise and delight, when they picked up Smiley, they were presented with a fruit basket the new Mom had sent down for them. Then, upon their arrival in N.J., they were presented with a gift card.
