DUCHESS #114 was an 8 week old, 5 pound, female Dachshund/Beagle pup, one of six dogs picked up in Roanoke, AL, by team drivers Hollis and Linda C in their own car and taken to meet another driver Tony C in Gadsen, AL. Tony packed the six into his own personal vehicle and taken to the TN border to meet with Mary Ruth R who had agreed to be a layover home for the six until they could meet their rides to new homes. Mary Ruth later drove back to the state line to meet with Tony who was to hold Duchess until her ride to New Jersey arrived. All went well until Tony was making the transfer. He had picked up some Bar-B-Que beef and some potato salad for himself. He made the mistake of leaving the food in the car with Duchess and his own pet, Maria, when he got out. Duchess bypassed the B-B-Q and went straight for the potato salad. She was quickly covered from nose to tail with the salad. With the help of handy wipes donated by a sympathetic lady, Duchess was soon cleaned up, somewhat, to continue her journey to her new home with Takeshi F in Tenafly, NJ.
