#271 ASHLEY (Greyhound) Orlando, FL - York, PA

ASHLEY #271, a female, 58#, 2.7 y/o Greyhound suffered a career ending broken toe on her right foot during a race. These type of injuries used to call for the dog being pts. Now, however, these injured racers are being adopted by loving families. She was picked up in Lakeland, FL taken to Havre de Grace, MD, to meet her new foster.
Ashley was an excellent rider, calm, got along great with driver Kathy Y's own pets. She wanted to play, especially when Kathy's poodle wanted to run. So did Ashley. However, Kathy herself just wasn't up to running 40 mph.

At one point on the trip, Kathy began vacuuming her truck and discovered Ashley was terrified of the noise. Kathy talked to her and got Ashley to somewhat accept the noise. Kathy also said Ashley took the whole bed while she was relegated to a corner of her own bunk. Such sacrifices OR drivers do for these pets.

Ashley went to a halfway house and is scheduled to attend a Meet and Greet function May 24-25 to introduce her to potential families.
