Success Stories
Operation Roger has had many happy endings from all the transports we have done. If you have a success story to tell us about a pet we have helped, please send an Email to operationroger01@yahoo.com and include a photo-we would love to share it with our visitors!
The latest completed transport stories are found under Information/Success Stories. We will add the update on the pet in red below our story. The stories found here are listed by the latest completed transport number at top. If you know your pets transport number, you may quickly find it in this manner. All of these stories will eventually be segmented into groups of about twenty.
This particular section you are reading now, located under Animals/Success Stories, lists the stories by the pet's transported alphabetical name. However, within the confines of each letter, the names may not be alphabetical. Confused? Don't worry. Scroll around and you will be able to locate your pet eventually. Sorry, but this is the result of the program, not us. If the pet’s name was changed enroute or at a later date, it will not show under the new name.
If you remember the approximate date of the transport and can't find your pet's story, Email us that information and transport name. We will endeavor to find the story for you.
We are always striving to improve our website. We hope you like what you see.

LITTLE MAMA #221
#220 CINNABON/#221 LITTLE MAMA (Ferrets) Louisville, KY - Gallup, NM
#220 CINNABON a 5 y/o 3# Male, and #221 LITTLE MAMA a 5 y/o 2.5# Female Ferrets were picked up near Louisville, KY, by team drivers Chris & Brandy P and safely delivered to their destination in Gallup, NM.
The ferrets came in a carrier and had food and water set up for them inside the carrier. Chris and Brandy report the ferrets were very tame, had great dispositions, and were definitely lovable. Their two on-board companions met them with differing reactions. Gizmo, the Yorkie, thought they were strange looking dogs and wanted to play while Little Joe, the Poodle, simply kept his distance. By the end of the trip, both Cinnabon and Little Mama had "kissed" Gizmo on the nose.
Little Mama and Cinnabon were rescued from a a large backyard breeder in Ohio who had over 700 ferrets outside in deplorable conditions. They were breeding indiscriminately and resulted in more of a hoarding situation than a breeding one. This pair are two of 14 first taken from the breeder, with nearly 50 more coming.
Transporting them to their new home in New Mexico clears out cage space to take in more of the rescues. The rescuers report "It's overwhelming!" Though not socialized when coming off the "farm", neither of these two were ever aggressive and once they were spayed and neutered, their dispositions turned into that of mushy little sweethearts. Mama will give you kisses and Cinnabon will cuddle.
Jerri C, the foster Mom, met this team with a sign which read "New Mexico or Bust." The receiver, Clover W, has a separate room especially set up for Cinnabon and Little Mama to enjoy.
Chris and Brandy didn't say if the rescuer's caution of "Once holding the ferret, a driver may have the sudden urge to acquire one of this lovely creatures" tempted them.

LOUIE #266
#266 LOUIE/#267 DOUIE (Malti-Poos) Schaumburg, IL - Joshua, TX *
LOUIE #266 and DOUIE #267, both male/neutered, 10 y/o, 10#, White Malti-Poos finally reached home in Joshua, TX, to be with their owner, driver Sue W. Injured on the job in Illinois and unable to travel home with her two companions, driver Susan M picked up the duo. They traveled to Florida where Susan took care of them during her off-time.
Susan then drove four hours to hand them off to team drivers Miles & B.J. F who took them on to Baytown, TX, to meet driver Jim B, who kept them until he went back on the road. Unable to get directly toward Joshua, Jim and his own new traveling companion, a white pit, and the boys, traveled east to Louisiana before finally arriving in Wilmer, TX, to meet Sue. The plan was for Sue, who had attended the funeral of a family member that day in Wichita Falls, TX, to meet Jim later that night.
However ... her daughter's car lost its transmission, stranding both of them until Sue's brother, two nephews, and a grand-nephew arrived like the cavalry to save the day. Sue's brother took both of them home to Joshua, leaving the car, but Jim had to return to his home with both dogs. Sue and her daughter drove down three days later to near Baytown to pick them up. By this time Louie and Douie were definitely confused but handling the situation like the pro-trucking dogs they are. When Sue walked in, Douie came to her immediately. Louie, on the other hand, let it be known he was unhappy with her by virtually ignoring her...for a while.

THE FOLLOWING REPORT WAS RECEIVED from Sue:
Many thanks to all of the Operation Roger guys and gals. Three times within four weeks this group rose to the occasion and rescued my pets. I was very ill with pneumonia and the flu on the first Friday in March in Kansas City, MO, which necessitated a stay in the ER. Tony H called my company's terminal and arranged for Louie and Douie to be walked a couple of times before I could return. Then, on the following Tuesday, in Mt. Vernon, IL, I was taken by ambulance from Wal-Mart to the ER with severe dehydration. This time Tony arranged for a local shelter to pick up my duo and keep them overnight. He called it "Jail." Meanwhile, two employees of Wal-Mart, to whom I'd given my truck keys, found my truck and walked my pets.
The third time is the story above. Tony, Dellcina, Kathy, Nancy, Glenn, Susan, Josh, Jerry, Kris & Brandy, Dave, Jim and others called to offer help. Since I didn't want to leave my truck in IL while I went home to TX, the three of us became the house guests of Joanne F, New Beginnings Shih Tzu & Friends Rescue, until the details could be worked out. Operation Roger will move heaven and earth in the attempt to help a driver's stranded pet, not just mine, but yours too. I told them they were just being put through their paces as a training exercise. They informed me they now had quite enough experience, thank you very much and please ... don't do it again!

LEVI #288
#288 LEVI (English Setter) Reading, PA - Shreveport, LA
LEVI #288, a 45# 2 y/o male English Setter was simply a sweetheart according to Driver Nancy R who picked him up near Laurel, MD. A bit too thin from the shelter, shy, submissive, Levi wants nothing more to do than give a lot of hugs and kisses. He loved his walks, was a fast learner, mellow and a big, big bed hog. Which, of course, means, Nancy had to make do with a corner of her bunk to sleep in. But, for our drivers, that is a small sacrifice to make for the love of a pet.
p.s. Nancy has visitation rights to Levi. She has even visited him at his new digs and he definitely remembered her … much to her delight.

LUCY #302
#302 LUCY (Rhodesian Ridgeback) Kilgore, TX - San Bernardino, CA
LUCY #302 a 3 yr 90# female Rhodesian Ridgeback began her cross country travels from Kilgore with Driver Nancy R. In Fontana, Nancy met Janay with the Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue and, together, they to San Bernardino to introduce Lucy to her new "Dad" David.
Nancy fell in love with Lucy. She had two specific antidotes to tell. Lucy jumped upon David’s glass top coffee table, crossed her front paws and looked back as if she were dancing. Another one was while enroute, Nancy put her truck into a truck wash. When a truck goes into a wash bay, the attendants start spraying the water while the truck is still rolling in. Then they stop to let the driver out. When Nancy tried to get Lucy out of the truck with the thought of taking her into the building, Lucy dug her paws in and wouldn't come out. Nancy didn't know the breed does not like water, period.

**********
Follow up: Lucy could not stay with David due to aggression toward cats and too strong for him to control when a cat was in the area. Janay with the Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue took her to a meet and greet event in San Bernardino. A family from San Diego, who has an avocado farm of 5 acres, adopted her on the spot. She has 2 of the 5 acres in which to run. She did test positive for heart worms but is under treatment with the University of California at Davis campus and her prognosis is very good. She goes on walks everyday with another Ridgeback and is also enrolled in advance obedience classes to protect the family's 3 y/o daughter.
Sounds like a happy ending after all.

E-MAIL From Susan M
After driving around and taking video and photos on Martha‘s Vinyard, we stopped at Kim's house and got her cat Buddha. He is a very cute and sweet cat. We made it back to the dock in time to catch the ferry back to Falmouth. Once back in my Nissan truck, I drove a short distance to Wareham, Mass and picked up LUKE. A cute and energetic Australian Kelpi Shepherd. He is 8 years old and has energy like a puppy. He was so excited to ride with me and really liked the cat Buddha, who was riding safely in his cage. About midnight I stopped in New Jersey at a Motel 6 and brought both pets in with me.
To keep the cat Buddha safe from the dog Luke, I put Buddha in the bathtub (no water, obviously) and opened his cage to let him wander about the bathroom. I took his litter box out too and placed it near the toilet. I made sure he had enough food and water and then shut the door to let him rest in there. LUKE was running around the hotel room, but stayed near the bathroom door often to sniff the cat. At one point during the night, Luke jumped on my bed and slept at my feet. He would whine a little at wanting to play with the cat, and Buddha meowed a little during the night. I didn't get too much sleep. I slept as much as possible.
I was up at 6:30am, took Luke out to the bathroom, jumped in the shower, then loaded pets and everything in the Nissan and proceeded to drive to the TA Truck Stop in Richmond, VA. I met Theresa and her husband who then took Luke to his new Ranch.
