#239 PHANCY (Min Schnauzer) Longview, TX - Evansville, IN
Phancy #239, renamed Frankie, a 7 y/o 15# female Miniature Schnauzer began her journey in Longview, TX, as an owner surrender. Dr. Angie, her husband, and daughter met driver Sue W in Mount Pleasant, TX.
Phancy quickly adapted to her new surroundings and Sue's two Malti-Poo's, Louie and Douie. At night she would go into her crate and not come out. The food and water bowls were right in front of her crate so she didn't have to go far to satisfy her thirst.
During the weekly Sunday night meeting, Sue discovered driver Dave W was in Knoxville, TN, and she was headed there. Phancy didn't fancy changing partners but soon adapted to the new truck and being the only pet on board.
Dave was headed to Florida and expected to head toward Indiana on the return trip. However, he was laid over in Florida for the weekend, thus delaying her arrival.
The new parents met Dave along I 24 in Kentucky and Phancy, renamed Frankie, was home.

#236 ROMEO & #237 CALLA (English Cocker Spaniels) New London, OH - Tyler, TX
ROMEO #236, a 5 m/o 25# male, and CALLA #237, a 4 y/o, 25# female English Cocker Spaniels began their travels in New London, OH. Due to their owner's circumstances, Romeo and Calla, came to the attention of one of Operation Roger's former co-ordinators, Michelle G who arranged for their transport.
It took three truck drivers, one rescue, and one 4-wheeler to get these two home. Operation Roger driver Josh W picked up the two in Delaware, OH, from their owner Linda Z and overnighted them. He then met driver Jerry H in Lebanon, IN, the next day. Jerry kept them overnight and delivered them to driver Jay M in Oklahoma City, OK.
Jay and his wife, Adele, overnighted them before Jay traveled to Dallas, TX, to meet Claudie S, a shuttle driver for Ginger B of Tuckers Tag Along Rescue near Weatherford, TX. Claudie then made the final leg to deliver these two to their new home in Tyler, TX.
Josh reported they both were well behaved but fought their leashes. A little nervous on the truck but that is to be expected. Jerry says Romeo, being a puppy, was outgoing and energetic. He would lay on the floor by the seat while Calla would be on the bed. Both were going better on their leashes in the short time he had them.
Jay said the night the two were overnighted Romeo would jump on the coffee table and just stand there. When no one moved to "groom" him he would just look at them strangely. Claudie had no trouble with either one and met Jean R and her two granddaughters in Tyler. The girls were extremely excited to get their new charges. Both plan to show the two for scholarships.

#235 VELVETEEN (PIT) Mineral Wells, TX - Charlotte, NC
VELVETEEN #235, a 10 m/o 45# Pitbull began her journey at the kill shelter in Irving, TX. Rescued by Ginger of Tucker's Tag Along Rescue at the very last minute before she was scheduled to be PTS, Velveteen took in stride the several moves from foster to foster until Operation Roger driver Randall M picked her up near Weatherford, TX, to start her final journey to Charlotte, NC.
From the beginning, Randall was calling in laughing at the antics of his charge. Laid back, easy going Velvetten quickly made herself at home... on Randall's bunk. She not just curled up as most dogs would do, she sprawled out on her back, feet up, and slept soundly. Which we understand is very unusual for a Pit.
When Randall would try to convince her she was a deeaugee and belonged on the floor, she would talk back to him, telling him he didn't know what he was talking about. She was enjoying her sleep just fine, thank you very much.
Needless to say, Randall fell in love. But, she had a home to go to through the receiving rescue. He did make it known to them, however, that if the receiving family didn't want her, he was to be called.

#234 BUTTERCUP (Italian Greyhound) Cape Coral, FL-Clinton, Ontario, Canada *
BUTTERCUP #234 a tiny Italian Greyhound, 4#, 3 y/o female was picked up in Fort Meyers, FL, by driver Nancy R from Christa W of the Rocket Angel Italian Greyhound Rescue.
Buttercup stayed with Nancy a couple days before being re-powered by driver Danny Joe W in Reddick, GA. Danny Joe sped his small charge up to Detroit, MI, where he met with Buttercup's new "Mom" Dianne T who came over from Canada.
This little one was a special needs pet. A rescued breeder dog, she had suffered a broken leg, was fearful and skittish. Danny Joe reported little Buttercup was so scared she stayed in her crate most of the time.
Arranged by Christa W, Rocket Angel Italian Greyhound Rescue, Cape Coral, FL Operation Roger drivers Nancy R pu 12/21/07 - Danny Joe W pu 12/24/07 del 12/25/07 ******************* The following email has been received:
Dear Honey: I wish to THANK YOU and trust you had a Blessed Merry Christmas and have a a very Happy and Blessed New Year in 2008!!
I must apologize for not contacting you sooner but I've been sick with bronchial pneumonia again so haven't been able to do much. I guess I was outside too much on Christmas Day without proper attire.
I wanted to personally and emphatically THANK YOU for all that you did to facilitate the transport of little Buttercup from Cape Coral to me here in Canada.
I had quite an adventure after I crossed the Ambassador Bridge at 9:30 p.m. into Detroit. I was my own "comedy of errors" through a misunderstanding on my part in the directions to meet up with Danny-Joe, Bless his heart!! He's such a true Angel!! He stuck with me however through the whole thing (I locked my keys in my car) and I eventually made it home around twenty to six a.m. There was very thick fog that only made it possible to drive 80 kms/hr or less as you couldn't see much past the nose of the car, all the way home.
I felt then, and still do, terrible about delaying Danny-Joe his trip home. I volunteered to call his wife and explain that it was my fault that he didn't make it home on Christmas Day, through my own stupidity. He said not to worry about it, that he'd been handling things with his wife for a long time.
He'd called me when he was only an hour-and-a-half away from Detroit as he didn't realize how far north I was and that it would take me two to three hours to arrive there. He said at that point that he was tired and didn't plan on travelling the rest of the way home but I still feel totally responsible for everything that happened. I am not normally so scatterbrained but the series of events that started that morning, before I even left my house, I guess, gave me more to deal with than my simple mind could handle.
Little Buttercup is fitting in beautifully with my other babies but avoids any direct contact with me. She watches me with my other Italian Greyhound who will be 18 on the 18th of this month and she comes close to sniff my hands and face but won't let me put my hands on her. It's going to take time to win her confidence as I did with my full-sized, ex-racing Greyhound when she first came. I don't want to rush her as I want her to feel that she can trust me, after all the terrible things that she's been through.
She's so very beautiful with a dark mask on her muzzle and very dark, deep set eyes with a white mark down the middle of her face between her eyes and four white feet. She's a gorgeous dark tan and the dark mask really accents her face. And she's so little, only eight pounds. She really loves her food though and it motivates her to come close to me. She hasn't missed a meal since she came so I know she's settling in a bit anyway.
She sure doesn't like the snow though...she's definitely a sun baby. She stuck her nose outside and went out about 3 steps onto the porch, the first morning she was here but couldn't get back inside quickly enough. As she's walking away, she looked back over her shoulder at me as if to say, "You've got to be kidding lady, if you think for one minute that I'm going out there!!" She actually glared at me. I had to laugh at the look on her face though...it was priceless!
I must go as I'm starting to cough but, I just wanted to reiterate and Thank You so very much again for all your work in getting Buttercup to me. The Lord works in mysterious ways and I truly believe that He was sure watching over me during my mishap in that bad part of Detroit, or I'd never have come out unscathed.
God Bless You and Yours Honey and if you get the chance, please say another prayer for Christa and all her helpers and the great work they do. Oh yes! and also for Danny-Jo and Nancy Reagan who coordinated the meeting. They really are fantastic people and you must be so pleased to have them as part of your Operation Roger Force.
Thank You and God Bless You and Keep You and Make His Face To Shine Upon You and Be Gracious Unto You.
Sincerest Best, Dianne & Babies.

The following update has been received 11/4/08:
Dear Sue, Staff and Drivers: I consider you all friends after the wonderful thing that you did by getting Buttercup from the Rocket Angel Italian Greyhound Rescue in Cape Coral, Florida up to Detroit for me to pick her up on Christmas Day in the evening, last year. It wouldn't have been possible without the extraordinary help of Nancy Regan and Danny Joe. I know you haven't heard from me in a while but I just had to send this to you being the God-fearing wonderful organization that you are. I've told many people about your wonderful group of drivers and at first they don't believe me that there's truly anyone that would do this type of thing in this world of today, but I prove to them that they are so very wrong....Buttercup is living proof!! Again, many, many thanks for what you are doing to help so many of God's creatures to get to their furever homes and out of bad situations.
Buttercup is doing well, even though I still can't pick her up but as her personality develops, she's so funny and does such crazy things that I can't help but laugh at her. She's put on weight and looks like a dog now and her coat is nice and shiny. She sure loves her grub...if I need to get her to do anything, all I have to do is use food as an incentive, and suddenly...there she is...amazing eh?
Many thank you's again for all that you do.
Sincerely and with Much Love, Dianne, Buttercup, Tommy, Pepper and Mariah.

#233 TIGER (Pit) Bedias, TX - Cordova, TN
TIGER #233 a brindle Pit, 3 y/o, 53#, began his journey in the Irving, TX, kill shelter from where he was rescued by Ginger B of Tuckers Tag Along. Tiger was first fostered in Grand Prairie before being driven down to Bedias to Regina T, of Taeger's Rescue, a layover home for Operation Roger. Regina had stepped forward to act as a foster for Tuckers Tag Along.
Driver Joerg T picked up Tiger from his wife, Regina. On the trip toward Fort Worth, Tiger decided to get under Joerg's feet and sit down on the brake pedal causing a very interesting situation. Another incident followed when they went through a guard shack. When the guard came out, Tiger met him at the truck's window, climbing over Joerg. The guard hurried back into the shack and refused to come out again.
Joerg renamed Tiger "Hooch," after a mischievous dog in a movie he had seen. Following a trip from Texas to Louisiana to North Carolina to Ohio, Tiger finally arrived in West Memphis, TN, to meet his new "Dad" Eric H. Joerg had arrived early at a truck stop where he was met by driver Sue W.
Unable to reach Eric, who was away on a trip but due back that afternoon, we began making inquiries into possible temporary quarters for Tiger when it became past time for Joerg to leave to continue his run. Sue called a former driver, Liz C, who promptly arrived to help.
As arrangement were being made, Eric returned to the area. Everything worked out for Tiger when Eric arrived from Cordova, TN. Tiger immediately took to Eric and when Eric took off running, Tiger was with him every step of the way, fully enjoying his new companion. Joerge, who had bonded with Tiger/Hootch, broke out into a wide smile knowing Tiger would be in a good home.

#231 JACKSON (Beagle X) LaPlace, LA - Lakeside, CA
JACKSON #231 a 6 m/o 40# male Beagle X has had quite a ride enroute from LaPlace, LA to Lakeside, CA.
Jackson's story begins with his rescue in the Louisiana swamps by Marty. We can only assume he was a Katrina victim and had apparently been shunned by a pack of wild dogs when found. Over a period of time. Marty became ill and gave Jackson and his three cats to a friend who in turn surrendered them to a shelter. In stepped Sherrie S of the Riverlands SPCA. Sherrie found a rescue in Lakeside, CA, who would take them in and find them homes. A delay developed when a legal hold was put on the animals and at the same time the San Diego, CA, fires broke out.
We held off picking the four up until such time as driver Nancy R learned Jackson was getting stir crazy in the shelter and she decided to take him on board and try to work her way to California. As things often happen in our trucking world, her normal route to California was changed. As time went on, Nancy thought she would adopt Jackson herself. She even took Jackson home to meet the other dogs but that didn't work out too well.
Angela S, the rescuer in Lakeside, decided she needed Jackson out there. Nancy reluctantly headed toward California with her charge. In Ontario, she was met by Kathy L, a shuttle driver with us. Both ladies went together south to Temecula to meet with Angela and her fiance, Steve, who had driven up to get Jackson. Nancy says Jackson knew something was up and went right up to Angela as if he knew he was nearly home.
Nancy said Jackson loved to sit on her armrest with his left paw on the back of her right shoulder and lay his head on her shoulder and watch the scenery.

#229 LITTLE MAN (Mix) Bedias, TX-Worcester, MA
LITTLE MAN #229, a mix of unknown origin, 6 months, about 25#, male was abandoned near our Layover Home in Bedias, TX. It took Regina T a couple days to coax and urged the small, scared, timid pup to eat and drink. She finally won his trust. Then she began the task of finding him a home on petfinder.com.
Once she did, we had quite a time getting Little Man posted onto our pet board. Then, we couldn't get a driver into her area before her husband, Joerg T, one of our drivers, came home.
Joerg put Little Man on board with him with the intention of us finding him a re-power to get the little guy on up to MA. However, as often happens, Little Man became very important to Joerg. He decided he wanted to meet the new "Dad and Mom" and to keep Little Man on board until they could get dispatched to MA.
Joerg reportedly stayed with Jan H and her husband two days during which time Little Man, now renamed Manny, and his new "Dad" became inseparable. Joerg left knowing Manny would be forever in a good, loving home. Operation Roger driver Joerg T pu 11/5/07 del 11/17/07 *************************************************************

#226 POLY-ZOOM (Polydactyl Kitten) Hot Springs,AR - York, ME
POLY-ZOOM #226 a tiny, tiny 9 week old Calico Polydactyl Kitten began her journey in Hot Springs, AR. Her owner, Gerald H brought her to driver Sue W in Malvern, AR. Sue took Poly and her two maltipoo companions with her when they visited her brother in Prescott that night. Found to have fleas, they proceeded to give her a dunking which she took right in stride.
Over the next six days, Poly proceeded to make friends with Louie and Douie. She loved to play with Douie's long ears, snuggle up with him, and made him her friend. Louie wasn't quite so easy to make friends with but by the time Poly made her next transition to her new home, even Louie was tolerating her.
On Wednesday night, Poly was transferred to Michelle G, a layover home, for a few hours until another driver, Jerry H, was able to come through Revenna, OH, to pick her up. Early on Friday morning, Poly's new family, Ernie & Jan H and their 11 year old son, Alexander, arrived to meet their new family member.
At last report, Poly had settled into her new home and was winning over her new four-legged friend.

We have received a follow up on SCOOBY and ZOE from their adoptive “Mom” Cheryl N 3/24/09 Cheryl says that when Scooby was picked up in Carthage he looked up at Driver Kelly A, and according to Kelly his eyes said “Oh, no. You’re not going to take me either, are you?” At that point, Kelly was determined to take him and moved everything around in her truck to make room. He wasn’t going to be left behind. It took Suzanne, Debbie D, and Kelly to load Scooby into the truck as he stiffened when lifted. Kelly gave both doggie treats and turned on the radio. Both dogs kept looking trying to find the source of the music and had no clue as to what it was and why it was coming from the dash. Now Scooby had lost a lot of hair because of depression. The vet said Scooby didn’t understand why people would take the little puppies and not him. Scooby and Zoe were found in a garbage dumpster at the age of 5 weeks. A lady named Nancy who worked nearby at Panola County Humane Society in Carthage found them. Because of hair loss between his front legs and neck, he seemed to be shy. Kelly decided to put a bandana on him to cover the area of loss. After that he was strutting like he was worth a million dollars according to Cheryl. For about a week, he would not allow anyone near him if he thought they were going to remove the bandana. Scooby now weights 90 pounds. Zoe is more active than Scooby who depends upon his sister. Zoe now weighs about 70 pounds. Both are at proper weight now. Cheryl sang the praises of Driver Kelly A. Thanks Kelly. *************************************************************
#223 MICKEY (Heeler/Hound) Valley View, TX - Lakeside, MT
Mickey #223, a year old, 45# male Heeler/Hound has made his journey north from Valley View, TX. Picked up north of Denton, TX, by driver Randy J, Mickey reportedly rode well, quickly adapting to his unusual ride. Randy says Mickey is tri-colored, like a beagle.
Apparently, Mickey had made quite an impression on his foster Mom, Marty, for she shed a few tears when he left. Mickey is a little timid at first but he warmed right up to Randy. He had never been in a house before he arrived at Marty's, but it did not take him long to get used to being in. He soon went up and down the steps and in and out the door like he had always been there.
Randy reports the first night, Mickey was so well behaved he couldn't even be enticed with food up onto the bunk (bed). He chose to sleep on the floor. However, sometime during the trip, Randy missed him on the floor. Looking back into the bunk, there was Mickey, all settled in and watching the scenery through the windshield. Normally, though, Mickey would ride on floor when the truck was moving. As soon as Randy would get out, Mickey was on his seat, watching his every move.
Marty sent a card along with Randy with instructions not to open it until his next stop, which he did. The card reads in part .... "Thank you again for your efforts on getting Mickey to a loving home. Your group's efforts is greatly appreciated."
On the other end of the trip, Randy took Mickey home with him in UT. From there, Randy drove his personal vehicle from Ogden to Butt, MT. The new Dad, Eric, drove all the way down from Lakeside to meet them. Once again, an Operation Roger driver shows his big heart by going the extra mile to give a helping hand to a pet in need.

#220 CINNABON/#221 LITTLE MAMA (Ferrets) Louisville, KY - Gallup, NM
#220 CINNABON a 5 y/o 3# Male, and #221 LITTLE MAMA a 5 y/o 2.5# Female Ferrets were picked up near Louisville, KY, by team drivers Chris & Brandy P and safely delivered to their destination in Gallup, NM.
The ferrets came in a carrier and had food and water set up for them inside the carrier. Chris and Brandy report the ferrets were very tame, had great dispositions, and were definitely lovable. Their two on-board companions met them with differing reactions. Gizmo, the Yorkie, thought they were strange looking dogs and wanted to play while Little Joe, the Poodle, simply kept his distance. By the end of the trip, both Cinnabon and Little Mama had "kissed" Gizmo on the nose.
Little Mama and Cinnabon were rescued from a a large backyard breeder in Ohio who had over 700 ferrets outside in deplorable conditions. They were breeding indiscriminately and resulted in more of a hoarding situation than a breeding one. This pair are two of 14 first taken from the breeder, with nearly 50 more coming.
Transporting them to their new home in New Mexico clears out cage space to take in more of the rescues. The rescuers report "It's overwhelming!" Though not socialized when coming off the "farm", neither of these two were ever aggressive and once they were spayed and neutered, their dispositions turned into that of mushy little sweethearts. Mama will give you kisses and Cinnabon will cuddle.
Jerri C, the foster Mom, met this team with a sign which read "New Mexico or Bust." The receiver, Clover W, has a separate room especially set up for Cinnabon and Little Mama to enjoy.
Chris and Brandy didn't say if the rescuer's caution of "Once holding the ferret, a driver may have the sudden urge to acquire one of this lovely creatures" tempted them.
