#99 JAKE BRAKE (Cocker Spaniel) Mt. Vernon, MO-Springfield, MO
JAKE BRAKE #99 a Cocker Spaniel, 8 weeks, 5 pound male was adopted and transported from Mt. Vernon, MO, to his new home in Springfield, MO, by and with Team Drivers Phil S and Leanne M.
He is to be their new trucking companion. He reportedly rides well but does have one funny quirk. He loves to sit in his food bowl and dip his paws into his water dish while drinking.

#98 NAKITA (Shepherd X) Hartsell, AL - Hartsell, AL
NAKITA #98 a Shepherd Mix, 6-8 month old Female was found wandering down a four-lane highway with a broken chain around her neck. Driver Tony H, couldn't pass her by. With a sigh he turned his car around and was confronted with a thin, hungry, thirsty, dirty, smelly but sweet natured Shepherd X. She had obviously been neglected.
Being the week-end, the local shelter was closed. Tony made a call to a friend at the local police department who offered Highway (as she was originally named) a cell...oops, we mean a crate, with plenty of food and water. An inmate, who was to be released the next week, offered to take her home. However, before the day was out, Tony had located a friend, Cindy M, who definitely wanted Highway. Tony had to go back to the jail and bail (we mean sign) her out to his care. Highway was quickly renamed Nakita. At last report, no one had claimed her and she was very happy in her new home with loving care takers.
Thanks for a big heart Tony.

#97 KLARA (Entelbucher) Martin, MI - Chestertown, MD
KLARA #97 a 1 year old, 35#, female Entelbucher was picked up by Driver Doug (Dusty) L near Grand Rapids, MI. This was Dusty's first transport and it went well. He said Klara loved to be scratched behind the ears. Dusty met Mitchell, with Rolling Rescue, in Lamar, PA, who took Klara on to Chestertown, MD.
Klara is a snuggler, good with people, good with dogs except dominant dogs, and not good with cats. She was taken in by Bellowood after an IN rescue renigged on taking her after she was already enroute to Indianapolis from GA.
Mis-labeled as a terrier mix, she is really an Entelbucher, a small, little known in the U.S., cattle herding breed. She has a strong herding drive and needed a working home. Victory Farms in Chestertown, MD, specializes in training and placing working dogs. Like most herding breeds, Klara will sometimes nip at ankles or hands while walking with a handler. This is not aggression, its a breed trait. In the abscence of cows, she will try to herd people.

#95 SPECKLES (Catahoula Leopard) Valdosta, GA-Knoxville, TN
SPECKLES #95 a Catahoula Leopard, 2 yrs, 60# chocolate brown merle, brown eyes, male was picked up by Driver Danny Joe W in Valdosta, GA and transported to his new foster home in Knoxville, TN. Danny Joe reports Speckles was a very gentle and loving boy and didn’t tear up anything on his truck. (Danny Joe has a way of laughing off everything one of his transport pets does and just shrugs.) Danny said Speckles was mostly quiet, as well. He was very laid back and very people oriented as the rescue had indicated. Danny Joe emphasize Speckles would make a great truck dog and would be an excellent family pet as well.
Speckles was in a high kill shelter and was rescued by Catahoula Rescue. He has suffered neglect and abuse and has hair loss, a permanently deformed foot (which doesn't slow him down much) and some other skin issues. He is amazing in his spirit of forgiveness in that he loves people anyway...and stands on his HEAD to be petted!

#94 MILO (Catahoula Leopard) Elko, NV-Hillsboro, Oregon
MILO #94, a 6 month old, 40#, male Catahoula Leopard from Elko, NV. Operation Roger driver Penny C was only 20 minutes out of Elko when she learned Milo was on her way. Scrambling to make the necessary phone calls and arrange a meeting place with the sender, Renee H, Milo prepared for a short ride to Sacramento, CA, where he was to meet up with Operation Roger driver Lizzy C.
Well...the best of plans can go wrong.
Penny's load didn't get unloaded in time. Lizzy's load in the Los Angeles area didn't get loaded on time. So instead of meeting in Sacramento, Penny took Milo with her on to Lodi, CA, where she was to pickup her next load. In stepped Operation Roger team drivers Don and Diane A. They met Penny in Lodi, doggy sat Milo for a few hours, and made the transfer to Lizzy in Sacramento. Lizzy then continued on toward Oregon where Milo met his new "Mom" Lori L. All's well that ends well.

#91 MUDFLAP2 (Blue Heeler X) Kellyville, OK - San Antonio,TX
MUDFLAP2 #91, a 7 week old Blue Heeler X puppy, 10#, male was picked up in Kellyville, OK, by Driver Lewellu G. Mudflap2 was one of a littler literally left on a courthouse doorstep and taken to Creek Pet Adoption.
David and Molly M had recently lost another Blue Heeler puppy and wanted to get another one so they contacted Operation Roger. We had just learned about the puppies at Creek Pet Adoption and arranged a telephone meeting.
Lewellu picked up Mudflap2 and quickly discovered he didn't seem to be feeling well. Contacting Creek Pet Adoption owner, Carol Lawrence, Lew did treat the puppy as directed based on the symptoms described. Lew delivered Mudflap2 to his new owners, David and Molly.
Sadly, Mudflap2 got sicker and sicker. His new "Dad" and "Mom" took him to Lew's vet in AZ who had to deliver the bad news that Mudflap had either Parvo or Distemper and would not survive.
Everyone involved was devastated to learn of this development. On a happier note, after several weeks of observing the surviving siblings, none became ill and are healthy and well.

#90 GRACIE (Beagle) Dayton, TN — N. Arlington, NJ
GRACIE #90 a Tri-colored Beagle Female, about 2 years old and weighing about 17 # was picked up in Knoxville, TN, by Team Drivers Lester and Theresa M. Rescue "Mom" Linda F drove from Dayton to Knoxville to meet this team at the TA Truck Stop.
Theresa reports Gracie was very reluctant to enter into this strange place called a truck and hid out in her crate for about 45 minutes before deciding this ride wasn't so bad after all and coming out to see what it was all about. Once she had her break, along with her human companions, Gracie was ready to continue her journey, short as it was.
She was met in Harrison, NJ, by her new foster "Dad" Colin M who will arrange a meeting with Gracie's new forever home.

#85 LADY (Aus Shep Terrier) Nashville,TN -Visalia, CA
LADY #85, a lovely Australian Sheperd Terrier mix, 11 y/o, 32#, was picked up in Nashville, TN, by Driver Lizzy C. Lady has had quite an adventure. While on vacation in Nashville, TN, the owner, Michael S, himself a trucker, suffered both a stroke and a heart attack. Before he would allow the EMTs to transport him to a hospital, he made them take down his information for Lady. Somehow in the mix, the information was lost by the EMTs and the motel staff told authorities Lady was a stray although she was left in the room.
Lady was chipped but not registered. In the meantime, Michael had returned to Visalia and despaired of ever seeing Lady again. It took the Nashville pound 3-6 months to located the owner's aunt in Visalia, CA. Once the contact was made a flight was arranged to fly her home, but... at the last minute it was determined to be too hot in the plane and she was once again adrift. That's when we were contacted.
Lizzy's traveling companion, Buddy, and Lady got along fabulously. Both loved their rawhides. Lady harassed Buddy by taking his rawhide if he became lax and didn't guard it. Lizzy met Michael at a rest area just north of Visalia, CA. Lady knew Michael immediately. Lizzy reports Lady's tail couldn't wrag fast enough. Even before Michael could get out of his vehicle, Lady was trying to get into his arms.
One can only imagine what all Lady has thought and dispaired of over the months. But, she is now reunited with her lost loved one. She jumped into the passenger seat and sat there as if to say, "OK, Dad, let's go home." Then, she lavished many kisses on Lizzy.

TUCKER #84 a 1.5 y/o Jack Russell Terrier, 23#, Male, was picked up Little Rock, AR, by Driver Lizzy C with the orignal destination being Vancouver, BC, Canada, with a meeting place of Seattle, WA. The original adopter was in the hospital but expected out any day. When someone finally answered at her home, it was discovered the adopter was still in the hospital and could not receive Tucker.
Lizzy contacted Operation Roger and the sending rescue, Debbie. A repower was found with Team Drivers Don and Diane A. The transfer was made in Deming, NM. They fell in love with Tucker and didn't want to give him up. However, Team Drivers Billy and Nancy P had already arranged to adopt him. The final transfer was made in Fort Worth, TX, with many tears shed.
Tucker had been fostered with 5 other dogs and obviously gets along well with everyone. All drivers report he is very playful and adores being petted and loved. He has the energy of the JRT breed but responds well to vocal commands.

Inside they found four live pups and some that didn't make it. Two of the pups took off and were not able to be caught or later found. #80 SNICKERS (Persian Cat) Paducah, KY - Darien, GA
SNICKERS #80, a 1 1/2 y/o medium size (a little on the thin side) Male has made it to his new home.
This rescued kitty needed to be transported from his temporary foster/rescue to his forever home after being rescued from a very bad situtation. For lack of room, he had been isolated in a comfortable but unused shop and had no human or animal contact except twice daily for feeding and cleaning. He was scared, and lonely, and needed the love his new "Mom" Ruby could give him.
Snickers was on our board for longer than we liked despite several attempts by drivers to arrange their schedules to transport him. Then along came Operation Roger team drivers Terry and Linda S.
Linda reports he was a sweetheart. Scared at first, he finally responded to Linda's TLC and they bonded. She said his eyes were an extremely pretty light brown. They took him to Valdosta, GA, where Dorianne of the Catahoula Leopard Rescue took him in. Within two hours, the new "Mom" Ruby drove over from Darien, GA, to pick him up.

#74 MICKEY D (Maltese) Dubuque, IA - Paducah, KY*
MICKEY D #74 a beautiful white, 2 y/o, 10# Maltese male finely made it from Dubuque, IA, to Paducah, KY, for training. Pick up by Driver Sue W in Iowa within just a few hours of him being posted on the bulletin board, Mickey D made a round-about trip to Texas and Colorado before arriving in Troy, IL.
The very first day, Mickey D learned how to put his paws on Sue's shoulder in order for her to get him out of the truck. He made it his self-appointed duty to accompany Sue as she worked around the truck and trailer. He also let anyone walking near the truck they were too close for his liking. He loved having his window down just to be point he could stick his head out and enjoy the wind flapping his ears around.
While in Texas, Sue W picked up her granddaughter, Ashleigh, and her Pug, Kathy. Mickey D and Kathy enjoyed each others company and Mickey D quickly learned from Kathy the things about a truck he had not already figured out.
Unable to get him directly to Paducah, KY, Sherri N from Love of Labs met Sue W at a local truck stop and housed Mickey D for a few hours before meeting with Clay R, a trainer who drove up from Paducah, KY.

(Submitted by Mickey’s current owner)
We got Mickey around 16 months old. Shortly after we got him he showed aggressive behavior towards visitors and it has gotten worse. This only happens in our home. It has progressed to nipping and biting. He has bitten two children. He has NEVER shown any aggressive behavior to anyone in our family. There are 4 young children in our home and we have a lot of young visitors. We feel he should not be in a home with any young children. Southern Comfort has agreed to find a home for Mickey.

Danny Joe reported gentle Sebastian was a lap rider, much to his own dog's, Cold Black, dislike. Sebastian rode on top of the cooler at first then decided the passenger seat was a better and more comfortable place. However, Cold Black didn't much like that idea either. In the end, though, both dogs got along and played together.

#67 BUDDY (Lab X) Winslow, AZ - Eugene, OR
BUDDY #67 a beautiful, 79#, 2-3 y/o, Chocolate Labrador was found wandering a truck stop in Winslow, AZ, by Driver Lewellu G. After noticing the dog trying to get into the trucks of several drivers and checking with them and the truck stop personnel, it was determined Buddy was a stray. Soft hearted as she is, Lew couldn't leave him behind. She reports he was very well behaved and loved the truck. He got along fabulously with her two pets. It was very obvious Buddy had been a trucking dog.
In Atlanta, GA, Lew met up with another Operation Roger driver, Rick W. Immediately, Buddy took to Rick. He found an empty plastic soda bottle and dropped it at Rick's feet. Of course, Rick had to throw it and the game was on. Rick took Buddy home with him to have him checked out with his vet. The report is there was no chip showing ownership. Repeated calls to the truck strop have resulted in learning no one has reported such a pet missing. Therefore, Rick's wife and grandchildren have accepted Buddy into their lives and he has found a loving, protective home.
All's well, that ends well. Thanks, Lew and Rick, for being such caring people we all can be proud of knowing.

#63 RALPH (Catahoula Leopard) Valdosta, GA-Sarnia, Ontario, CN*
RALPH #63, a male Catahoula Leopard, 10 month, 55# was picked up in Valdosta, GA, by Driver Danny Joe W and transported to Taylor, MI, where Ralph caught another ride on to Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. Ralph was black in color, which is unusual for a Catahoula.
Ralph, very mellow and good natured, was not easily fazed despite all the strange noises around him. He was quiet and well mannered on a leash and among people. He is afraid of cars and trucks whizzing by though.
Ralph, beginning his ordeal in a very high kill shelter in Florida, is being sent to an approved Catahoula Rescue foster in Canada. He spent a week at the vet's after his neutering in boarding until we coordinated transport to Valdosta in preparation for his journey north.
Ralph's fees were sponsored by a very kind breeder. Black dogs do not often fair well in shelters. Ralph was dropped off with his two much more colorful Catahoula siblings who were adopted rapidly. Time had run out for Ralph and thankfully some folks stepped forward to help save his life! He is great with other dogs, cats, kids and people
Danny Joe is still laughing. Ralph managed to chew the cord to his XM Radio, broke something else, and chewed another item. He even initiated some of Danny's clothes while enroute. Despite of all this, Danny is still smiling about the experience and is ready to do it again.

#62 TAYLOR (Dachshund/Chihuahua) Roanoke, AL - Port Hueneme, CA
TAYLOR #62, a beautiful strawberry blonde Doxi/Chi pup, 4 month, 8# male was picked up in Anniston, AL, by Driver Sue W.
The first day on board, Taylor stayed on the floorboard with his head against the gear shift boot. After dark, the driver reached down to touch him and couldn't find him. Turning on the light, she discovered Taylor totally sacked out in his bed located on the floorboard in front of the passenger seat. However, the second night, he discovered the driver's bed and claimed it as his own from then on.
Taylor is very smart. He quickly learned to put his paws on the driver's shoulder so she could pull him out of the truck when they would stop for a break. He enjoyed walking right with the driver as she worked around the truck and trailer...in fact considered it his rightful duty to do so. In playing fetch, Taylor soon caught on he was to bring the toy back to the driver's hand.
In Aurora, IL, Taylor boarded the truck belonging to another Operation Roger Driver, Leo D, who was headed to Truckee, CA. Leo reports Taylor made a beeline for his bed and rode there the entire way. Leo was able to get a load down I-5 near Port Hueneme and delivered Taylor to his new Mom Alison A.

#57 TATER (JRT mix) Oklahoma City, OK - Milwaukee, OR
TATER #57, a 1-2 y/o 30# Jack Russell Terrier female mix has had quite an unusual training experience.
In an Oklahoma prison program which matches an inmate with a pet, Tater went through basic obedience classes. Once she graduated and a new home found for her came the problem of getting her from OK to OR.
Tater began her travels in Oklahoma City, OK, with Maureen R. Maureen drove Tater all the way to Kansas City, MO, to meet with Operation Roger Driver Rick W.
Rick reports Tater was loveable and played the whole trip with his dog, Buddy. In Milwaukee, OR, she met her adopted Mom who had been very carefully screened. Both Tater and her new Mom reportedly bonded quickly.
However, there is another, almost tragic, story here. Having driven from OKC to KC late in the day and meeting Rick about midnight, Maureen turned around and began her drive back home. Just an hour out of Kansas City, Maureen went to sleep at the wheel and totaled her car... her husband's brand new car. The good news here is Maureen in alive and well...a little sore perhaps, but alive and laughing.

Sorry we were gone for the weekend. Rocket is doing awesome! We didn't really have to do anything, he has really calmed down around sr.
No agression at all in the past week. We took him camping last weekend and there were sooo many people and kids around and he did awesome.
Didn't growl once, he went to everyone to be pet and to sneak bites of food.
He is so spoiled now, everytime he seems jr eating he goes to sneak food. Jr feed's him everything even if we say not to he sneaks. It is to cute. I found both of them behind the tree yesterday "sharing" a sandwich. He goes to the vet on the 12th so we will see how he is doing. I think he has gained a few pounds.
He had a bath today and did wonderful. He wasn't really thrilled about it but didn't fight either. Just sat there and kind of sighed.
I will get the photo's developed this weekend and get you pictures asap. He is such a sweetie we just adore him.

MAGGIE #55 a 5.5 y/o 25# Female Rat Terrier/Doxy/Corgi has had quite a travel story. Originally a rescue pet who was found to be neglected by her home in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Maggie traveled to Jacksonville, FL via regular transport.

#54 ARNIE (Dachshund) Lewisburg, TN - Cooper City, FL
ARNIE #54 a 7 mo old less than 10# purebred Dachshund male came from an undesirable breeder. Found on the internet by the Valdes family, Arnie, now renamed Smokey, has been welcomed home by two little girls, 8 and 10.
Driver Danny Joe W reports Smokey is very timid and shy. Smokey quickly made his territory Danny Joe's bed. That night, Danny Joe put Smokey on his chest and kept petting and talking to Smokey until he began to feel comfortable enough to respond. Later, Danny Joe did discover to his dismay, however, that when Smokey licked his hand, it meant he wanted to go out, and was not just giving kisses.
The Valdes' drove up to Tampa, FL, to meet Danny Joe at his receiver. The little girls were quite excited to finally get their new puppy.
Although Danny Joe has been with Operation Roger since September 2005, this is his first transport. He was finally in the right place at the right time. He says it was definitely worth the wait and absolutely won't be the last. Thanks, Danny Joe, the smile in your voice is unmistakable.

The following is a post from Debbie:
Operation Roger Members, (Esp. Penny & Louella)
I just want to let everyone know that my little blind pug was delivered into my arms by Louella this morning (5-2) at 6:25 a.m. at the Piliot Truck Stop in Troy, IL.
Radar had quite an adventure. He was picked up in Salt Lake City, UT by Penny and spent several days with her crossing the country. Penny and Louella met in Gary, IN and Radar began his trek to southern IL.
Both drivers were wonderful to keep in touch with me - and tolerated my frequent phone calls! This was a special transport. Not because I was adopting Radar but because Radar is blind. He took extra patience, for which I owe a great deal to both of these drivers. Penny has become a friend through our many phone conversations and we have plans to meet in a month for supper. And, so she can see Radar again. This transport will give Radar an opportunity to live outside a crate and develop into a 'regular guy'. He has a blind canine brother and has already integrated into our little pack. It is with gratitude I thank this organization for bringing Radar to me - Utah to southern IL. The way this fell together seemed nothing short of a miracle.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
You guys are the best!!!!!
Sincerely,
Debbie Lewis

#50 RUPERT (GSDmix) Enterprise, AL - Mesa, AZ*
Rupert #50, a 3 y/o, 80#, White German Shepherd mix male became the next family reunion. Left behind in Enterprise, AL, with Brendon, a family friend of his mistress, Laura N, Rupert escaped several times from the yard, with the aid of another dog, apparently in attempts to find Laura. She was missing her beloved pet and desperately wanted him with her in Mesa, AZ. She’d had to move suddenly from AL to AZ and forced to leave Rupert behind.
When Team Drivers, Hollis & Linda C, arrived to assess Rupert to see if he would fit in with them and their two tiny traveling companions, Hollis was skeptical. However, perfectly mannered Rupert seeming to sense this, rose to the occasion by going to sit in front of him, and offering his paw. That’s all it took for Rupert to have Hollis wrapped around his little finger, uh, big paw.
As Brenda had said would be, it was obvious Rupert had traveled in a truck before. Linda reported he got along well with their dogs and had no problems getting in and out of the truck and did not bother the driver.
We are including follow up posts with reference to Rupert to give more of an idea of how much love there is between Laura and Rupert.

E-MAIL #4 RECEIVED-THIS TIME FROM THE DRIVERS:
When we signed on to Operation Roger we told Sue no big dogs, but Rupert's need was right on our route and we decided to meet him and decide if we could handle him.
Laura's description was right on the money, he was adorable, docile, friendly and loveable. Hollis was saying no big dog in the cab and it took him all of about a minute after seeing Rupert to put him in the cab with our two small dogs.
They were not happy but Rupert was content and we were in love at once. Quite an experience having an 80 lb dog want to sit in your seat and lay in your lap. The cab is full of dog hair, but we are happy and so we hope are Laura and Rupert united today in Tucson, AZ.

E-MAIL #5:
Rupert is home and adjusting well. He loves going for his early morning walks again, and I have introduced him to the bark park, where he has befriended a huge Great Dane named Merlin.
I want to thank Linda and Hollis again for not only bending their rules but all out breaking them and accepting Rupert into there truck. And Rupert really did have Hollis wrapped around his paw! They told me 10 more min with him and theyed have been fighting me for him! and I believe them, when Hollis said good bye to Rupert I heard him whisper in his ear "Now remember what I told you, Rupert, if it doesn't work out you just give me a call, you here"
Rupert really is a special dog! With a place in his heart for everyone and everyone always seems to have a place in there heart for him!
Thank You to everyone involved in bringing my sweet baby boy home!

#49 DUSTY (Lab/Retriever) San Diego, CA to Iola, KS*
Dusty #49, a Labrador Retriever, 3 y/o, 75# male became another successful family reunion. Debbie S, of San Marcos, CA, drove Dusty all the way to Calexico, CA, to meet with Driver Edie M.
Although larger than Edie had originally indicated she would take, she couldn't let Dusty sit waiting for a ride when she was that close. Edie did report Dusty did not like getting in or out of the truck but made the ride without any problem.
In Oklahoma City, Edie was met by Adele, the wife of one of our drivers, who overnighted Dusty at their home until the next morning. She then loaded Dusty into her car and drove to Tulsa along her courier route where she met with Debbie. Debbie then took Dusty in her car to Vinita.
There, Dusty got a surprise when Holly H, his owner, arrived to transport him on home to Iola, KS. It was reported Dusty was so happy to see Holly, he was appreciative of all the help he had receive and showed this by returning to Debbie's car to give her a kiss before she left.

THE FOLLOWING E-MAIL WAS RECEIVED:
This is an e-mail from Dusty's Mom!
Thank you so much to everyone involved in getting Dusty home to me! I was running out of hope of ever seeing Dusty again and his "foster" mom was already wanting to keep him. I had promised my kids that somehow he would stay in our family.
I was however, failing to find him a way out here. The price of transporting by air was extremely costly and I am on a fixed income and could not gather enough money to get him here. I spent countless hours trying to find some way to get him home. I was not aware that Operation Roger had been trying to arrange transportation all along.
I found this site by accident and was not really sure of whether or not they could help me. After talking to Sue on the phone, I felt truly blessed and knew that God had his hand in this all along.
When I heard her say "it doesn't cost anything" I could have fallen down (if I had not been in my wheelchair) WHO DOES ANYTHING FOR FREE ANYMORE? Then she said it was their ministry!
A few days later I got a call from Edy who said she was trying to help me get Dusty home. The only problem was that she was only able to pick him up in El Centro, so I had to figure out some way to get him there. I had problems trying to find a way to get Dusty to El Centro as it is a 2 hour drive from where he was staying.
I couldn't find anyone who could drive that distance on that short of notice and it was a weekday. Edy called me the following day and said she would wait until later that night if I could possibly get him to her. Things all of a sudden fell together.
His foster mom got an earlier appointment to the vet, my son in law left work early and drove 1 1/2 hours to get him and then 2 more hours to deliver him to Edy.
Once I heard that Dusty was on his way i couldn't sleep! He was actually going to come home. I was in constant contact with Edy, what a wonderful lady. Her kindness and caring personality was evident right from the start. I just can't say enough about her.
Dusty is a big dog and she told me that he didn't want to get in the truck or out of it but, she found other drivers to help her and she got him to Oklahima City successfully. Adele took him from there and welcomed him as her own pet. He ran and played until he wore himself out and was sound asleep by 7:30pm.
The following day, Adele met Debbie in Tulsa and Debbie brought him to Vinita where I was to meet her. Since I am in a wheelchair, I had to have a friend of mine drive me to get him- 2 hours away. We had gotten there 1 hour earlier because we had no idea where we were going as the whole area is new to me.
I was thrilled to get Dusty and found inside his bag that Debbie S had packed, notes from each driver, tears streamed down my face as each person had thanked me. Thanked me for letting Dusty be a part of their life. How incredible! I knew then that he had been cared for as if he were their pet.
On the ride home, Dusty tried to get up front in my lap and barked at every big truck that we passed. I am not sure what he was trying to tell them or me. Maybe Hi! I rode in one of those.
He is adjusting well and happy to be in his new home. Thank you to every person involved in getting Dusty home to me. I know that there were many people who helped to make this reunion happen. What an incredible gift you are giving to pets and their owners.

Unable to accompany her buddy on the plane, Lucy was stuck until her "Mom" Kit, contacted Operation Roger for help. Dubious at first about sending Lucy by truckers, Kit followed up on some referrals given to her by Operation Roger and quickly concluded this was the way to go.
While Lucy had to wait for her ride with Driver Rick W while he completed other transports already planned, she made the trip without incident, despite being uneasy with all the noises around her, and arrived safe and sound.
Rick W and his family even went the extra mile and drove Lucy partway down to meet the Delaney’s. Thanks Rick. This certainly shows the heart of our dedicated drivers. The added posts below from Carol at Creek Pet Adoption and Driver Rick W give even more insight into this transport.

#46 TWILA (Jindo Mix) Newport, IN to Brooklyn, NY
TWILA (Jindo Mix) #46 a 1-2 year old female Jindo X weighing 43 pounds, was picked up in Newport, IN, by Driver Sue W. Twila is going from a shelter to approved adoptive home in Brooklyn, NY. Twila was very calm and sedate and got along with everyone. She was totally not thrilled with being on the truck Sue W reports. She wouldn't move from the floor by the passenger seat.
In Joilet, IL, Sue W met Driver Glenn W who took Twila with him. A snag developed in Glenn's normal run to Brooklyn and he was sent to the Washington, DC/ Baltimore, MD area instead.
Because he had already committed to the delivery, Glenn drove up to the DE/NJ border area and Twila's new "Mom" drove down to meet him there. Glenn waited three hours for Twila. This is another example of a driver giving up driving hours to make sure a pet gets to where it belongs.

#42 AGNES (Beagle) Pulaski, TN - Vancouver, BC, Canada*
AGNES #42 a female 12 y/o Beagle has quite a story. New Mom Mia F reports she had watched Agnes on the Pet Finders board for over a year, wanted her, but had no way to get her all the way to Vancouver, BC, Canada. The vet would not let Agnes fly due to her age. Mia stumbled across Operation Roger and posted on the bulletin board with the hope maybe this would help. It did.
Driver Joe F picked Agnes up from Jerry's Rescues in Pulaski, TN, where she had been since December 2004. Both drivers reported Agnes rode well, was alert when walking and promptly went to sleep as soon as the truck began rolling. She rode with Joe up to MN and then to his home in MO.
Meanwhile, Driver Rick W left OR and picked up Agnes from Joe and continued on to Cincinnati, OH. He then headed to Seattle, WA, to meet with Mia who had insisted upon driving down to meet them. Agnes will join four other of Mia's elderly pets and be forever out of the shelters she's lived in for so long. Have a happy rest of your life, Agnes.

Operation "Roger"
By Sue Dickens
Compassion and caring are characteristics truckers don’t always get credit for but Operation Roger ... Truckers Pet Transport is changing all that - one pet at a time!
Operation Roger, a part of In His Way Ministries, is a unique group of kind-hearted, pet loving, volunteer over-the-road truck drivers who have become like family and have discovered new friends. These drivers take the time and initiative to help rescue groups and individuals, transport stranded, lost, abandoned, abused, or left-behind pets become united with their loving families in new protective homes in both America and Canada.
Borne out of misery and sadness, as of November 1st, 2006, the volunteer efforts of more than 100 truckers have made a difference in the lives of at least 161 dogs, cats, and two ferrets.
“The idea was the result of all the horror stories I heard following Hurricane Katrina. With my heart heavy with sadness of the situation, I wondered what I, a truck driver, could do to help. Having heard about the Petfinder.com website and discovering a consistent need to help pets on an everyday basis, not just during a regional crises, I called a friend, Dellcina, and my two daughters, Chantelle and Tasha. I was surprised they were actually excited about this crazy idea.
“With their encouragement and much prodding, I finally summoned the nerve to call the XM Satellite radio station, Open Road trucking channel 171, on September 16, 2005, and talked with the on-air personalities. I simply asked if there were any drivers interested in an operation of transporting rescued pets to better homes across the country. The result was instantaneous with 12 - 15 drivers calling that day alone.
The name “Operation Roger” is the result of using “operation” on air and in memory of my buddy, Roger, who had died suddenly the previous June, and “Truckers Pet Transport” tells what we do,” says trucker Sue Wiese of Joshua, Texas, otherwise known by her CB handle as Classy Lady.
Classy Lady explains she rescued the four-year old Manchester Terrier from a shelter after he had been picked up as a stray. “He was as sweet as he could be and I was devastated when he died so I know how important pets are to people. From the first he seemed to know he was to be a trucking partner and always knew when it was time to hit the road,” she says.
A BULLETIN BOARD MADE IT HAPPEN ... But wait
To give the truckers and rescue groups a way to communicate, Tommy and Wanda, two drivers unable to transport but wishing to help, provided a link from their website www.truckers4truckers.com to a bulletin board so rescue groups could post where pets were and where they needed to go. With this, Operation Roger ... Truckers Pet Transport became a reality on the Internet. “We are currently working on our own website, “operationroger.com,” which will be an improvement over the bulletin board...we hope,” she adds laughing. “There have been several bumps in the road, but we are plodding along. We won’t give up.”
The bulletin board makes it clear just how crucial the operation has become and just how it works: “Due to the nature of our business, our loads are time critical. Pets must be brought to/picked up promptly from the driver. Pets are kept in the cab with the driver and treated as if the pet is their own. As these pets are transported as the drivers do their jobs, they may be with the driver for an extended period of time and will be delivered on the driver’s schedule. One pet is all a driver can be expected to transport at a time, although a driver may choose to take a couple. Each pet must have a health certificate and a shot record, be clean, travel with at least 5 days of the food they are accustomed to eating, a carrier when needed, and perhaps something comforting to them (blanket, toys, etc).”
Classy Lady explains, “We don’t rescue the animals but we are here to provide transport across the country for those who do. We put them in the cab with us and treat them like they are our own pets. In other words, we are a “Foster Home on Wheels.”
THE CANADIAN CONNECTION
I’ve spoken with Classy Lady on a number of occasions over the past few months gathering information for this article, catching up to her on her cell phone as she drives her rig along the highways of America.
“Canadian drivers are needed and can make stops in the US without violating any laws or regulations as long as they are not paid for transporting the pets. This was a major question for us all,” she explains. “The same applies to American drivers going into Canada as well.”
That is where the Canadian connection brings the operation closer to home.
We managed to talk to one Canadian trucker, Ray Cartwright, who says he heard about this project while listening to a talk show on XM Satellite radio and offered his help. At the time we spoke to him he was living in Alberta. Ray, who has been a trucker for about 25 years, spoke of how much he loves animals and hates to see any cat or dog in distress so he offered to help in any way he could. There were two transports into Canada Ray wanted to do, but the new owners were so anxious to get their pets, they drove into Washington themselves. “There will be others,” Ray said, sighing.
There were other truckers I managed to reach as well who have posted their information on the Operation Roger bulleting board letting Classy Lady know they can transport a pet. “We are all just a group of pet loving truckers who want to help transport pets while delivering our loads and the bulletin board is currently where it all comes together,” explains Classy Lady.
CHALLENGE OF TRANSPORTATION
Adhering to the USDA rules regarding age related shots and health certificates for the importing state is a challenge. “We stress the need for this certificate not only because it is required, but also for the protection of our own pets.” The question became what about Canadian rules.
“There is some paperwork that must accompany the pets which must comply to both the USDA and the CFIA regulations and thankfully, they are essentially the same.”
ONE MIRACLE AFTER ANOTHER
Rescue groups such as BestFriends.org (from Utah), one of the best, most organized, cohesive organizations out there, set up “staging areas” in Tylertown, Mississippi, New Orleans, Louisiana, and Gulfport/Biloxi, Mississippi, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in September 2005 to help round up abandoned and lost pets. Their networking has led to one miracle after another. And one of those miracles is the rescue of a 12-year-old Beagle named Agnes.
One of the organizations in the network is known as Jerry’s Rescue in
Polaski, Tennessee, (www.petfinder.com/shelters/TN62.html). “She (Agnes) was found running loose in the woods behind some people’s house and they called me about it,” Jerry told Canadian Trucking News. “She was in real bad shape when I got her. She was almost starved to death, her hair torn off from running through the briars trying to survive. I got her and nursed her back to health.” Jerry knows how important it is to provide a rescue service in his area. He has as many as 100 dogs at any given time and he does this all with love and compassion. Jerry’s Rescue is a self -funded private all-breed rescue. A very small organization that does not have the financial backing, facilities, or staff of much larger organizations . . . “but that doesn’t mean our animals aren’t well cared for and are just as deserving of a home,” he says.
HOME FOR AGNES IN VANCOUVER
When Mia Frederickson of Vancouver, B.C. offered to give Agnes a home, Jerry was elated. Mia had been wanting Agnes ever since her picture appeared on a website but the logistics of getting her from Tennessee to Canada was daunting. After months of searching, she found Operation Roger on the internet.
“When Agnes was posted, we were dubious about getting her transported. The logistics of getting any transport from Tennessee to Washington/Canada just didn’t seem to be feasible. It all came together in one day,” said Classy Lady, “when Operation Roger drivers Joe Fleishman and Rick Williams stepped in to do a repower.”
“Agnes’ trip began when Joe picked her up in Tennessee and brought her up to his home just outside of Kansas City, Missouri, where she stayed for three nights until Rick came through in his rig,” explained Mia on the phone from her home in Vancouver.
“Rick picked her up going east, so she had to travel all the way to Cincinnati, Ohio, with him and then came all the way back. It was quite a journey for her but she made it just fine,”” says Mia. “She is a beauty, even at age 12.”
Anxious to get Agnes after waiting nearly a year, Mia met Rick at a truck stop in Seattle, Washington, —— and the delivery of Agnes safe and sound was complete. Mia took some photos of her and Agnes to share with our readers.
THE TRUCKERS
So, Rick and Joe and Ray are just some of the truckers who make it all happen for Operation Roger. They are all just ordinary people who just happen to love animals and want to help.
The one thing I noticed when talking to these truckers is their humble attitude. They are not looking for praise for their efforts . . . just knowing they are helping these animals is enough for them.
For example, Rick is an owner/operator who has been driving for almost 12 years. He lives in Oregon and leases out to a company in Wisconsin. His runs take him from Portland, Oregon, to Cincinnati, Ohio, and back to the Northwest. “All we are is a bunch of drivers trying to help out. It was great to get Agnes to her new home,” he says.
CANADIAN TRUCKERS GETTING INVOLVED
J.R. Beauregard of Alberta is another of those truckers who wants to help as more and more Canadians get involved. “I run 48 states from Florida to California and all of Canada as an owner/operator. We have a Basset Hound and Shepherd-Cross dog. I love dogs so I figured it would be a nice way to help out while working,” he adds. J.R. who had been trucking since 1978, has since come off the road to pursue other interests. And there are lots of stories like that, many of which can be found on the Operation Roger bulletin board under Pets and Families United. “As more and more rescue groups learn about us, especially those in the mid- to western US states, I expect more requests will be coming in for our help,” says Classy Lady. “We have transported pets into the northern states who were headed for all parts of Canada. As most of our drivers don’t run Canada, they must meet the new owners on the US side.”
“We need more Canadian drivers to become aware of us. Maybe once this article has been published more truckers from Canada will want to help,” For Classy Lady Operation Roger is a labour of love.
“We are looking for drivers who can catch hold of the vision and stay involved. Each driver is assigned a Team Leader according to their cell phone service. We are now incorporated and waiting on our 501 (c) 3, enabling us to receive tax-deductible donations.
“We already have a staff including “Honey,” who mans the office and the tremendous amount of e-mails which come in; our Lead Co-ordinator, Michelle and her assistant Leanne (both drivers), who has almost single handedly put over 130 pets and drivers together in the last 6 months; and “Sleeping Owl,” who does all the back-ground checks for us. Between the five of us, we spend over 150 hours a week putting all this together.”
“It would be wonderful to see someone in Canada do an “Operation Roger” kind of thing.” Anyone wanting to contact Classy Lady can email her at: operationroger01@yahoo.com or write Operation Roger, P. O. Box 522, Joshua, TX 76058. (END OF ARTICLE)

#40 FERRIS (PANCAKE) & #41 FERRIE (WAFFLES (Ferrets) Beaumont, TX - Westport, IN*
Ferris #40 and Ferrie #41, two female Sable Ferrets weighing in at a whopping one pound each at the age of 2 years enjoyed their ride with Team Drivers Don and Beth W. These two were rescued from a hoarder who had simply neglected them for too long. Long and slender, extremely playful, these two young females traveled from Beaumont, TX, to their new home in Westport, IN. Beth reports Ferris (aka Pancake) was a creamy white with a cute pinkish red nose. The more honery of the two, she would playfully nip the ear of Ferrie. Ferrie (akaWaffles) was dark brown/black with a tan underbelly and sported cute raccoon eyes. Beth reports Ferrie liked to be held; was a lover.
New Dad, Myron, and a neighbor, Tim C, drove from Westport to the Louisville area to make the transport connection. The two men were quite taken with their furry new friends but soon warmed up to them. Once home with Myron, he says the two raced throughout the house, checking into everything. Soon, they grew tired, found the couch, and curled up together on a pillow...fast sleep.

#38 SUGAR (Retriever X) Beaumont, TX-Lake Havasu City, AZ
SUGAR #38, a 1 y/o, 40#, female Retriever X has made it home from Beaumont, TX, to Lake Havasu City, AZ, via Kellyville, OK. Sugar began her trip with Driver Lewellu G in Lufkin, TX, along with her traveling companion, Beatrice.
Lew was ill and became even more so as the trip progressed. A temporary stopping place was found at Creek Pet Adoption in Kellyville, OK, with owner Carol Lawrence.
While Lew continued on toward home and medical help herself, Sugar enjoyed a vacation off the truck. Her stay extended to two weeks as concerted efforts of both the sending rescue, Puppy Passions, and Operation Roger did not produce any other transports toward AZ.
Lew, much improved health wise, came back through and picked up both Sugar and Beatrice to continue the journey. Lew reports she walked by Sugar's kennel without stopping only to have Sugar protest. On the way back by, Sugar reared up on the side of the kennel at Lew's height and definitely let her know she was recognized and in no way was Lew to leave her again.
Carol reports Sugar ran to Lew's truck, stood waiting for the rest of them with her paws on the steps. Once in the cab of the truck, she promptly sat in the seat, looking around, as if to say...let's get on down the road.
Sugar and Beatrice then went on to Flagstaff, AZ, where a friend of Sugar's new family, Cory, picked them up from Lou and housed them overnight until Pamela, who lives in Lake Havasu City and works in Flagstaff, could take both on home. Pamela later drove Beatrice on to her new home in Yucca Valley, CA.
Sugar is being trained as a service dog for her new owner, Malissa H.

While concerted efforts of Puppy Passions and Operation Roger to find other transports on to her destination west did not materialize, Beatrice enjoyed her stay in OK until Lew could make her way back through to continue the journey.
With her health much improved, Lew met with Cory in Flagstaff, AZ, who kept little Beatrice overnight until Pamela, a friend of her traveling companion, Sugar, family could take them on to Lake Havasu City, AZ.
Beatrice was then driven on to her new home in Yucca Valley, CA, by Pamela. What a tale Beatrice will be able to share with others of her trip in a big truck. Much happiness to you, Beatrice, in your new home.

#30 ALPH, #31 BETTY, #32 FLAPPER (Basset Hounds) KS - Kansas City, KS
ALPH #30, BETTY #31, FLAPPER #32 all Basset Hounds was a pet transport of a slightly different nature. In January, Operation Roger received a requested from Cindy, Mid-America Basset Rescue, for assistance.
It seems they had sent three dogs to a vet in Kansas who spayed and neutered these pets. Two ladies, volunteers with the rescue, were in the process of transporting them back when they experienced car trouble. Team Leader Sue W called Cindy to check on pet on our Pet Board and learned of the problem. She knew Driver Jerry H lived somewhere in the general area and took a chance he would not have left on his regular weekly run to the East coast. As it happened, Jerry was late in leaving home.
Assessing the situation, he quickly called the ladies and arranged to meet them and their three passengers at a truck stop where they could limp into and which was also on his route. Jerry not only aided in arranging a tow truck for the vehicle but put the two ladies and the three basset hounds in his truck and took them to Kansas City, KS, where they were met by other members of the rescue.
Just another example of the good hearted drivers Operation Roger is proud to have on board.

Her foster family got her medical care during her pregnancy and raising her pups before getting her ready for her new forever home. She had been given up to the rescue because she was gun shy and wasn't producing the "proper" hunting pups, she can now put that all behind her.
Dellcina reports Ruby was a sweetheart and loved to ride and did indeed insist on sharing ALL food. Because she was so loving and wanted to stay so close to Dell, her own two pups became rather jealous but still got along well with Ruby.

EBONI #27 a Corgi Mix completed her adventure via a big rig with Operation Roger driver Mike W and Dillon and is now at her new home in Richmond, CA, with her new "Mom" Evelyn.
Eboni, while shy and timid at first, just couldn't resist the attention given her by Dillon, the “Therapy Dog.” Although deaf himself, Dillon certainly doesn't let that bother him. He likes to play and doesn't take no for an answer.
Eboni responded and was soon romping around the cab of the truck. At her new home, Eboni quickly made friends with Pete, a Boxer/Pitt mix, who outweighs and overshadows her. Her favorite position for being brave and barking at anyone is from in-between Pete's legs.

#24 TEX and #25 CLYDE Beaumont, TX to Harleysville, PA
Tex #24 and Clyde #25, a 15# 3 month old Shepherd Mix and small Kitten have arrived home to a very excited young lady and lad, Tammy and Danny. Tammy had contacted Operation Roger and, although just a pre-teen, participated fully in the planning process.
The two had a very adventurous ride with Driver Tom C from Beaumont, TX, to SC, before going back west to Alabama to await a repower with Driver Tony H.
Both drivers soon learned Tex and Clyde were inseparable. Tom C soon learned Clyde would protest, loudly, if Tex was let out of the carrier without him. They ate, slept, and played together. In sleep they would be intertwined. Their alternate sleeping preferences were for Tex, behind the driver's seat; for Clyde, it was wrapped around the gear shift.
Clyde seemed to know whenever Tony H needed a pick me up around 4 a.m. for he would use all 16 nails to climb up Tony's pant leg to finally snuggle into his lap and go back to sleep. Tony said he would definitely be wide awake thereafter. One of the funnier parts of the trip for Tony occurred when Tony was driving down the road minding his own business when suddenly Clyde fell from the overhead bin directly on top of Tony’s head. Thankfully, no other vehicles were around them at the time.
When the unlikely duo arrived in PA, Tammy and Danny were literally jumping up and down with anticipation. Tony learned the youngsters had named Tex Tex simply because he came from Texas.

MISSING DOG FINDS ITS WAY HOME
The fact Taz is with his family at all is a miracle; the kind they make movies about. Taz, an 8-pound, 3 year old Terrier Mix, became separated from his family on January 4 after they were involved in an accident in southern Illinois while the family was headed to Montana for a new job starting on January 8. After the accident, the family searched and searched, but couldn't find their furry friend. With heavy hearts, the family had to complete their trip by bus.
A few days later the family got a call from the towing company saying Taz had showed up at their yard, camped out by the family's wrecked vehicle. The folks at the towing company began taking care of Taz.
Hanna from TruckNPaws in Chicago drove down to pick up Taz and get him into a warmer, safer environment. She contacted Operation Roger, and within a few hours, driver "Saddles" Donna B. had Taz on board and headed to his new home. Saddles kept telling Taz, "I have a surprise for you." When she delivered Taz to his family, Saddles said, "See, I told you I had a surprise for you." Taz responded by smothering both his Mom and Saddles with kisses. If only Taz could talk and tell how he found his family's vehicle.

Jack #20 a 2 y/o 50# Shar Pei's wait for his forever home has ended. Driver Joe F stepped forward and, although unsure of himself in transporting this size pet, had a smile in his voice upon delivery to Jack's forever home.
Joe reports Jack was skittish at first on the truck yet surprised him the second day by laying his head on Joe's lap. Joe kept a calm voice, talked to him constantly, and petted him often. When Joe was asleep and Jack needed to go out, Jack would like Joe’s face to wake him.
Joe admits he had a tendency to spoil Jack just by showing him affection and even felt a loss when he transferred Jack to his new Dad, Brian. In this case, the separation anxiety was on the party of the driver.
