Hi just wanted to say hello again and let you all know that Mesha the little Poodle that you all helped get home to me is doing wonderful. She truly is a goodwill ambassador.
Awhile back she made our town newspaper , being the friendly pup, and,... 2 weeks ago, she and I returned from a girl's summer camp after being the camp nurse and Mesha the ever watchful Angel. Sick and frightened children were comforted by this "furchild". She would snuggle up to children in the camp infirmary and had a soothing calmness to all that she encountered.
We stayed for 3 plus weeks and this wee one greeted everyone with such a loving kindness. Even those who were afraid of dogs eventually were won over my Mesha's gentle spirit. She met at least 200 people during our stay and was such a wonderful presence to those that shared her tenderness.
There are no words to express my gratitude to all of you that helped bring her into my life for she is such a good girl that made so many children happy. Most of these kids were from Harlem and other places that really do not provide the freedom to simply be and enjoy the sweetness of life. These children were poor and disadvantaged that otherwise would never be able to afford a camp experience. Because there are caring people in this world opportunities were there so that these kids could have some fun.
Mesha was right there in the midst of childhood innocence and again I just want to say thank you to all the Angels that are right here on earth. Without you dear people Mesha would not be what she has been,: truly a "goodwill ambassador". Thank you to one and all and a big thanks to Bruce and Sheri, team drivers who answered my prayers nearly a year ago. (Mesha still loves the sound of the big rigs and each time one passes I wish that the journey be safe and that home be soon in your travels. ) ,
God Bless you all that travel the endless miles. My prayers are with you. ,,,,,,,,With love and gratitude,...... Mesha and Diane

We received the following Email:

Hello, and thanks to all of you at Operation Roger that helped bring Mesha home!!!
A very special heartfelt appreciation to Bruce and Sherry, team drivers, and a sweet couple, who took care of Mesha as their own. They went beyond my expectations in what they so lovingly did to help heal my wounded heart and give Mesha a home where she is part of a family that will love her for whatever time that one shares upon this Earth....
A year ago last August, with a heavy heart, it was necessary to put to rest my 16 year old Bichon, "Bobo". that was a beloved companion. since a pup. He was going into kidney failure and nothing more could be done. My hands were upon his body, my eyes held his in a gaze of goodbye., and as his last breath was drawn ,he lay in my arms.
It took a long while to really celebrate his life as the loss was tremendous. Six months after losing "Bobo" , a neglected Poodle named "Snuffy" came into my life., and made me realize that I could love again with this gentle baby. Life was wonderful and the zip was back in my stride and inner being. Four months passed and in a moment the pickup came too close and killed this "furchild" as he walked beside me on a leash. There wasn't any reason for this senseless accident and the tears flowed days upon days........
Time passed , but, it was like having an open wound that simply would not heal... I blamed myself despite knowing it was a tragic accident...... One day I found myself still searching and looking at homeless pets and felt that it would be a BLESSING to honor a tragedy in giving a home to a pet in need. Thus, with time's passage and countless hours seeking came Mesha, A Poodle who was surrendered to a shelter after the owner wanted to travel, casting a baby aside.
A foster mom who worked at the shelter took Mesha home and loved her enough to allow me to adopt so she could take another wayward doggie in to care for.(Mesha was with this foster mom for about 3 weeks).
We corresponded and got the necessary paperwork, references and application completed. Then the obstacle arose in how does Mesha get home. My heart believed firmly in,..... where there is a will there is a way..... Barbara, the foster mom , gave me the acceptance of Mesha being mine and generous time to make arrangements to transport. Flying would have been hard as Mesha would have needed medication , thus ground transport seemed the best means.
SO, ........ Operation Rodger came literally to the rescue and answered my prayers with some Angels known and unknown to me. )For those unknown who helped get Mesha to me , PLEASE, let me thank you humbly from deeply within. For those I have emailed or spoken with, like wise.
Thank you. Again a SPECIAL THANK YOU to Bruce and Sherry that went out of their way in picking up Mesha in North Carolina in a personal vehicle driving about 150 miles roundtrip before even beginning the journey.
Mesha was supposed to be heading from NC here to Massachusetts. but, a medical problem with a family member of Sherry's arose and a detour became necessary. So, Bruce, Sherry and Mesha turned back and headed to Utah. All had been on the road for better than 2 weeks together., and there was caring and kind updates of everyone's progress.
Through prayers and time passing we all finally had a time to meet, which was a Sunday night. Needless to say it truly seemed bittersweet. There seemed many mixed emotions. I was so happy to see Mesha yet sad to take Mesha from her home of 2 plus weeks as there was not any doubt that Mesha shared a loving bond with these 2 people a short time ago merely strangers..
I then realized that more was gained than lost and now there is a bond between all of us that will not be affected by anything short of loving appreciation. Those once strangers,........ now friends,............ always welcomed in our home.
Just think! , Sue started such a wonderful thing that is a gift to one and all. In her loss of Roger she has opened her heart and given so much joy to people she may never know, but, certainly wish her BLESSINGS and LOVING KINDNESS. There are Angels amongst us and I am so BLESSED to have received so much from so many of you. God Bless all of you who make this possible.
I will look at you truckers as you travel the roads and endless miles wondering about the precious cargo you deliver. THere are no words at all that can even begin to exspress the pure joy of having shared a moment of embrace with Sherry and Bruce, other than wish there had been time to spend together. We will forever be bound by a pure simple love, and no doubt Mesha will hear the big rig's call as they pass. GOD BLESS all of you who drive the roads bringing things that money can NEVER ever buy.
THANK YOU WITH LOVE...........Diane Shockley ds01005@aol.com

Hello to one and all. Just wanted to say a quick hello. Mesha is still being the sweet little pup who truly loves others especially little children. Yesterday, we got back from a 4 day overnight Boy Scout volunteer mission and although grateful to be back home and rolling around in her own bed she behaved wonderfully. Again, really need to say a big THANK YOU to you folks that drive for the cause . I have a companion that is truly cherished not only by myself, but, by others. She is a spirit of giving unto others, and is well loved. Many thanks to all of you that have made her part of my life.  May your journeys be safe as you drive and travel in those big rigs that bring the small packages into our lives. When you are far away know that you are close at heart in gratitude and appreciation by those you have helped along the way. I am one of those who truly has benefited from your heartfelt kindness.Keep safe,.....Diane and Mesha

#155 POOKY (Boxer) Jacksonville FL, FL to Ozark, AR

POOKY #155 a Boxer, female, 3 years, 55 pounds, has been reunited with her family in Ozark, AR, after being stolen and taken to Florida. For whatever reason, Pooky was in the Sandford, FL, Seminole County, kill shelter where she was scanned, found to have a micro-chip, and her owner contacted.

Jodi, the owner, wanted Pooky back but could not financially afford to fly her home so her fate seemed to be sealed until Desiree B found Operation Roger and posted her on our board.

With only a couple days left for this little girl, Pooky was transferred to Jacksonville, FL, by Cynthia, via private transportation, to await transport by team drivers, Terry and Linda S. While there, Pooky was checked out by a vet and found to be ill, thus delaying her trucking adventure a bit. Yet, the day came when she was picked up by the team and delivered the next day to Ozark and a very happy "Mom" Jodi S.

#154 BLACKIE (DSH) Calgary, NB - Drayson Valley, AB, Canada

BLACKIE #154, a year old Domestic Short Haired cat definately had nine lives and a loving family.

Driver Ray Cartwright was approached by his daughter, Kim, to transport Blackie from a vet hospital in Calgary, NB, back to his home in Drayson Valley, AB. Blackie had had cancer and was ready to go home but had to do it quickly for his urine was still radioactive from treatments.

The sending vet made it very clear to Ray Blackie could only be on his truck for no more than six hours. Ray made the trip in under four hours and safely delivered Blackie back to his owner, Dr. Thoms, who also happens to be Ray's brother-in-law.

Blackie reportedly meowed when put in the truck but promptly curled up and went to sleep for the rest of the trip. However, once he saw his master, Dr. Thoms, Blackie certainly made his joy at being among his loved ones known.

Ray, who crosses the USA/Canada border several times a week must carry a letter of explanation for a couple of weeks and present it to the authorities should he set off any chemical alarms because of his having been in the vicinity of the radioactive kitty cat. All in a days experience of a pet transporter.
Thanks Ray.

#150 JACKO (JRT) Girard, OH - Carson City NV

JACKO #150, a 22 pound Jack Russell Terrier, 8 y/o, male returned to his original home in Carson City, NV, with the help of two drivers, John K and Phil S.

Several months ago Jacko was adopted by Pedro C from Girard, OH, as a companion for his elderly father while he, Pedro, worked. Unfortunately, Mr. C, the father, suffered a stroke and had to return to his native Puerto Rico. Jacko moped around to the point Pedro decided to return him to his former home in Carson City, NV, with Jerri and Robert.

John K met Pedro at a truck stop in Seville (Lodi), OH. A few hours later, John met Phil S at another truck stop in Jeffersonville, OH, who then took him home with him to Springfield, MO. While there, Jacko took exception to Phil playing with his own puppy, Jake, resulting in an immediate repower on his way to Nevada.

Phil drove up to Sedalia, MO, to meet again with John K. Also involved in this transfer was drivers Joe F and Glen W. Joe had offered his home as a layover if needed (it wasn't) and Glen, who happened to be near the Sedalia area, offered to take Jacko.

As it turned out, John was closer and again stepped up to the plate to repower Jacko who had gotten along with Buddy, John's Lab X companion, the first time.

The only incident reported on the remainder of the trip was a confrontation between the two dogs which resulted in both of them going to their corners, which happened to be the same corner, together, and making mental notes not to rile John again.

Otherwise, the two even slept together. Oh, one other thing. Jacko accidently locked the door when John got out. In reaching through the window to unlock the door, John found himself confronted with a growling Lab who objected to an arm being stuck through the window, even if it was his master's. Guess John doesn't have to worry about anyone taking his truck... or his dog!

John met Robert in Las Vegas, NV. When Jacko saw Robert, he immediatley began jumping from seat to seat, excited to see someone he knew and obviously loved.

#149 SOPHIE (Maine Coon Cat) Avenal, NJ to Johnson City, TN

Sophie #149, a 2 y/o 8# female Maine Coon Cat began her travels in Avenal, NJ, with Christine S. She was picked up by driver Tony H who was told Sophie was very agressive toward humans and to be very careful of her.

She was picked up near Johnson City, TN, Monica M or Catherine J., who will be fosters for Sophie and taken to her new home where she will, hopefully, become better adjusted.

This is a sad example of how children can affect the life of a pet. Some children were teasing her and she had had enough. Defending herself, she attacked them. She was then put into isolation. She later bit her foster "Mom" and her daughter.

#148 LOUIE (Malti-Poo) Little Rock, AR - Joshua, TX

LOUIE #148, a 9 y/o male MaltiPoo, weighing only 9 pounds was picked up in Little Rock, AR, from Debbie B, as a trucking companion for driver, Sue W.

Louie was rescued from a kill shelter in MS by a friend of AR Southern Dog Rescue and transferred up to AR to Debbie. Debbie just knew this was the dog for her friend, Sue.

It soon became apparent Louie was not well and would not eat...anything for 3-4 days at a time. As soon as she could get home to Joshua, TX, and to her vet, Sue discovered Louie had chronic colitis. Put on medication and a special diet, Louie responded immediately.

Sue reports all her grandchidlren love the little guy, even her 2 y/o grandson would walk him. Although their one year old Chihuahua, Angel, was slightly jealous for awhile, the two got along just fine.

#142 LADDIE (Pom) Joshua,TX - Memphis, TN

LADDIE #142, a 1-3 year old male Pomeranian, weighing only 5 pounds was originally intended as a trucking companion for Operation Roger driver Sue W. However, within ten minutes of arriving home, her daughter exhibited extreme symptoms of being allergic to him.

He was immediately taken to another of Sue's daughter's who agreed to keep him until either Sue or another driver could get him back to his original rescue in Columbia, Tennessee.

In the meantime, Laddie, who already ill, became more so. Sue took him to a vet where he was diagnosed as being malnurished, had bronchitis, and a couple other things wrong. The vet wouldn't let Laddie, renamed Little Bit later on, travel so he stayed behind when Sue left.

After the vet deemed him able to travel, although not totally well, driver Lizzy C picked Laddie up with plans to transport him to a Memphis, TN, rescue. As he was still needing some medical attention, Lizzy agreed to "foster" him.

Things went well with the two and Lizzy for a couple of weeks and she considered adopting Laddie.  However, he later bit Lizzy's sister and then her.

It was decided Laddie needed another home.  He was delivered to Julie at a Memphis rescue and is awaiting his new home.

#139 JETHRO (Beagle) — Dayton, TN — Bridgewater, NJ

JETHRO #139 a 7 month, 21 pound, male Beagle was transferred from Dayton, TN, by Linda F to Knoxville, TN, to meet with driver Tony H who then transported Jethro onto Bridgewater, NJ.

Tony reports Jethro was laid back although he did initiate Tony's new mattress cover. Jethro wanted to play with Maria, Tony's tiny long-haired Chihuahua, but Maria wouldn't have anything to do with playing.

Once in Bridgewater, Jethro was met by Sarah B, also with SOS Beagles who will transfer him onto his new home.

#138 SADIE (Shepherd/St Bernard)Hillsdale, MI-Branchville, NJ

SADIE #138, a 6 month old, 66 pound, female Shepherd/St. Bernard puppy is our latest successful transport and was done by our newest driver John K within days of his coming on board with us.

John picked Sadie up near Hillsdale, MI, from Linda P and transported to Scranton, PA. John says Sadie didn't want to get out of the truck. He had to enlist the help of Sadie's new "Mom" Timerly H who had arrived from Branchville, NJ, to take Sadie home.

It wasn't so much Sadie liked the truck so much she didn't want to leave. Not at all. She wasn't so sure about this type of riding. She just realized Timerly was her ticket off this shaky, noisy, rolling, walk-in closet and she'd better take advantage of the opportunity to get off, that perhaps better things were in store for her.

Buddy, John's Lab X traveling companion, did his bit in this transport as well. At one point when John got both dogs out to take a walk, Buddy decided John's ability to handle Sadie's leash wasn't enough. He took Sadie's leash from John's hand and continued to "walk" Sadie himself, leash in his mouth.

John reports Sadie went to a loving family who lives on 14 acres and has two children with whom Sadie can play.

#135 SPOT (Chi/Rat Terrier) Toney, AL - Interlachen, FL

SPOT #135, a tiny, 3#, 2 year old female Chihuahua/Rat Terrier from Toney, AL, was picked up by driver Tony H from Foster "Mom" Mary B in Athens, AL.

Spot was leash trained and interacted quite well with Tony's four-legged companion, Maria, who can be very picky about her friends. Although Spot was nervous at first when picked up, she soon sniffed out her surroundings, found them in perfect order, laid down on the puppy piddle pad thinking it was a blanket and promptly went to sleep.

This was a short, 2 hour transport to Chattanooga, TN, where Spot met Misty S who is serving Operation Roger as a layover home at her rescue. She will stay there several days until driver Danny Joe W arrives to complete her travels to Interlachen, FL, where she will become the companion of Mary's mother, Virginia F.

Danny Joe completed the transport of this little girl to Gainesville,FL, where Virginia picked her up. This was quite a change for Danny as he has been transporting the big dogs like Catahoula Leopards. So, he went from 60-100 pound pets to a mere 3 pounder.

He says Spot was cute but a bit reserved with him. Danny gave Spot a biscuit which quickly disappeared except for some crumbs on the seat. She looked at Danny as if to say, "Well, aren't you going to clean this up?" Danny just kept driving. Spot then decided that tactic wasn't working so she pushed every crumb off the seat into the floor before laying down to sleep.

#134 DUSTY (Beagle) Dayton, TN - Morristown, NJ

DUSTY #134, a 1 year old, 22 pound, female Beagle, from Dayton, TN, was picked up by driver Tony H from Linda F of SOS Beagles in Athens, TN.

Tony reports Dusty was quiet, unassuming, and initially timid. She got along great with Maria, Tony's little Chihuahua, and Chance, another transported Beagle. Dusty promptly found Tony's bunk bed and made herself at home, sleeping most of the way up.

When he stopped for potty breaks, he did have to watch her closely and keep a tight reign on her leash because she did want to run. Tony reports Dusty loved to sit in his seat while he was walking the other dogs and honk the horn.

Dusty was delivered to Colin M of SOS Beagles and Dusty's new "Mom" Barbara in Pluckemin, NJ, who took him on to his forever home in Morristown, NJ. Tony reports it was love at first sight for both Dusty and Barbara.

Because of this, Chance had to be crated all the way to the meeting point with Colin M of SOS Beagles in Pluckmine, NJ. Colin will see that Chance gets on to his new foter home in Morristown, NJ.

#132 LOUISE (Beagle)-Dayton, TN-Cherry Hill, NJ

Louise #132, a 7 month old 19 pound Female Beagle was driven from Dayton, TN, by Linda F of SOS Beagles to meet with driver Chris C in Knoxville, TN. She traveled with Zach on the trip.

Louise is a high energy girl who loves to play keep away. She rode in the crate for four hours because she didn't take to the truck very well at first. After that, she did well. She sniffed around the floor and bed then made herself comfortable on the bunk and laid there until Zach joined her on the bunk.

She showed affection toward Zach, which Zach didn't like so Chris put Louise back into the crate for another few hours. After that, she did quite well out of the crate. Over all, Louise did not give the driver any problems. Louise loved the children at Chris' house and was very playful and proved to be a great alarm clock at 0500 the next morning wanting outside.

Louise met with Colin of SOS Beagles in Morristown, NJ. Colin will take Louise on the her new home with Sue M in Cherry Hill, NJ.

ZACH #131 a 2.5 year old, 22# pound male Beagle was driven from Dayton, TN, by Linda F of the SOS Beagles and picked up in Knoxville, TN, by driver Chris C.

Chris reports Zach was very energetic and just couldn't stay out of trouble. He would come up on the passenger side seat to look out the window but would try to get on the dash. This he accomplished one time and rode there for about an hour or so until he decided the bumps were too much for him.

He would play with the laces of Chris' extra shoes. Otherwise, Zach knew he was to stay in the passenger seat. Zach is a very laid back boy, housetrained, calm, quiet, who travels well. Zach went home with Chris overnight and did fabulously with all the children he found there.

Chris does report Zach reacted adversely to the rattle of keys.
Zach was delivered to Colin with SOS Beagles in Morristown, NJ, who will take him on to his permanent adoptive home with Elaine Z in Nutley, NJ.

#130 Bobby (Catahoula/BlackMouth Cur) Knoxville, TN-Valdosta, GA

Bobby #130, a 1 year old, 50 pound Catahoula/Black Mouth cur male was picked up in Knoxville, TN, by driver Danny W. Danny reports Bobby was the best Catahoula transport he has had to date.

Bobby is very mild tempered and gets along with everyone and everything. He was newly neutered. He is inquisitive but as he wasn't on the truck very long, he was not a lot of trouble.

Bobby was originally pulled from a high kill shelter in Florida and was headed out to be fostered in Arizona. However, before he caught his ride he got very sick and lost his placement in AZ. He has a foster home and adopters waiting in Florida for him who have already filled out an application.

He and Brie, another Catahoula, will leave Valdosta, GA, with Dorianne as soon as Bobby gets into town-headed for the foster in Florida who is handling the adoption and fostering of Brie.

Several dogs at the shelter came down with what Bobby had, but they didn't have the excellent care he recieved and a couple died. We are lucky Bobby made it through.

#127 ACE (Rottweiler) Dallas, TX - Memphis, TN
ACE #127, a 5 year old male Rottweiler, 110 pounds barely made it onto our bulletin board before Chris C picked him up in Dallas, TX, from an owner who had been forced to give him up.

An overnight ride later, Ace met his new "Mom" Susan S in West Memphis, AR, who took him on to his new home in Mississippi. Chris reports Ace didn't want to get out of the truck in West Memphis. It took both he and Susan to coach Ace to leave.

This particular transport was unique. Susan and her children were the recipients of Operation Roger's very first delivery, Precious, way back in October 2005.

Susan reports Ace immediately became "king of the household," but apparently he and Precious are getting along fine. We have no doubt Susan's family will provide a good, loving home to Ace.

#126 SUNSHINE (Shepherd X) Little Rock, AR - Camino Island, WA
SUNSHINE #126, an 1.5 year old Shepherd female mix, weighing 31 pounds was despertly in need of a ride from Cabot, AR, to her new home in Camino Island, WA.

Operation Roger was trying hard to find a ride from Little Rock, AR, to the St. Louis, MO, area to meet driver Rick W who would take her on to Camino Island, WA. The prospects didn't look good the timing would work out. Then, in stepped a new driver Lance W, who was in West Memphis, AR, headed toward St. Louis that evening.

However, Sunshine and Lance were 2.5 hours apart. Debbie B of AR Southern Dog Rescue, grabbed Sunshine and Poohbear. another pet needing a ride to WA, and headed toward West Memphis. Soon both pets were on board with Lance who took them home with him where they stayed overnight. Lance's wife the drove the two to meet Rick W in Lebanon, IL.

Rick reports Sunshine was long-haired, timid, skittish, yet nosey. At first, her tail was droopy. By the second day on board, she had warmed up to him, her tail was curled, and she lived up to her name by being in good spirits when she met her new "Mom" Amy T.

#125 POOHBEAR (Yellow Laboradore/Min Pin) Cabot, AR - Clarkston, WA
POOHBEAR #125 a Yellow Lab/Min Pin mix, 4 months old and about 20 pounds began his journey in DeQueen, AR, with Terri D of Paws and Claws. He was moved by private transport to the AR Southern Dog Rescue in Cabot, AR. We dispaired of finding a ride out of AR to WA for the longest time. Then, out of the blue, everything came together in a hurry.

Driver Lance W was in West Memphis, AR, and headed to the St. Louis, MO, area which was exactly what was needed to make the transport work. After hurried calls to Debbie B of AR Southern Dog Rescue, she quickly rounded up Poohbear and another pet needing the same ride, Sunshine, and headed for West Memphis, 2.5 hours away.

Lance took the two home with him where they stayed for a day. Lance's wife then drove to Lebanon, IL, where she met with another Operation Roger driver Rick W.

Rick then took Poohbear on to Clarkston, WA, where he met his new "Dad" and "Mom" Mike and Candy B in Pendelton, OR. Rick reports Poohbear was a normal puppy, playful, sweet and shy. As soon as the truck would start rolling, he would go to bed. But, as soon as it stopped, he was up and ready to play.

#122 MINI & #123 SMUDGE (DLH) Santa Clara, CA - Leoti, KS
MINI #122 & SMUDGE #123 both Domentic Long Haired female felines were picked up in Santa Clara, CA, by Operation Roger driver Mike W and his Blue Heeler, Dillon.

Now let me tell you a story. I'm Mini and I'm 8 years old and weigh only 7 pounds. My buddy, Smudge, younger than me at 6 years but weighing a hefty 12 pounds, and I are domestic long-haired cats. We have had quite an adventure. First, our loving owner had to move without us. While she put us in the care of the California Animal Health Center in Santa Clara, CA, we just knew we would never see her again.

The day came when we were put into a big truck with a man and a dog! He made us comfortable in a large crate on a bed above his and this dog. Smudge, already a scaredy cat, and I didn't know what to make of this. The man, Mike W, and his dog, Dillon, were a part of Operation Roger...Truckers Pet Transport. We soon learned they were not to be feared, especially Dillon, which was good because Smudge and I have been declawed.

Dillon wanted to play but I wouldn't have anything to do with that! I got back at him when he went to sleep by laying as close as possible to his head. This he didn't like and would push me aside. I'd spat at him but he just looked at me. What kind of dog is this I wondered. However, we soon made friends. I liked especially to creep down at night and sleep next to him or Mike. One night, Mike woke up with my paw in his eye. He just laughed.

When he would not feed us as soon as I thought he should, I would sit on
the edge of the upper bunk and talk to him quite sternly. He would quickly comply. How easy he was to train...Nice.

We went to AZ, then back through CA, on to OR and WA, then over to NV, UT, AZ, NM, TX, AR and finally TN. In Nashville, we were taken off the truck and went to a house where we had a room all our own in a layover home.

We stayed with them a couple of days before another Operation Roger driver, Jerry H, picked us up and took us through the states of IL and MO before we made it to Hutchinson, KS. Before we knew what was happening, we found ourselves looking at our owner, Sherry. We are so happy to be back with her. If only we could tell her all about our adventure.

#121 BAXTER (GSD/shepX) Little Rock, AR - Menomenee Falls, WI
BAXTER #121, a German Shepherd/ Shepherd X, 5 months, 21 pounds, from Little Rock, AR, was picked up by driver Mike W and his Blue Heeler, Dillon.

Baxter was afraid of everything and everyone. Another job for Dillon, the therapy dog (who himself is deaf)!! At the time Mike and Dillon also had on board two cats, Mini and Smudge. Baxter came face to face with Mini and did a double take.

Dillon got between the two "to protect His cat," but soon both dogs were busy playing with Mini and Smudge looking on from their high perch on the upper bunk.

Mike reports Baxter was easy to train and quickly picked up on what he was to do and not to do. He would push the limit but responded immediately to "No." He quickly trained Mike to respond to a licked or nudged arm, which meant he, Baxter, needed to go out.

Mike gave the two a big rawhide chew bone which they quickly chewed into two pieces. Then, they would sneak the other's bone. By the end of the trip, Baxter was no longer scared. Thanks, Dillon. You came through again.

LAYLA #119 and LUCY #120, 2 year old, 30 pound, females, both black/white Cocker Spaniels joined driver, Sue W, in Little Rock, AR. Layla, along with her sister, Lucy, were rescued from a kill shelter and were going to their forever home in Austin, TX.

Sue reports Layla and Lucy were a surprise. Expecting to receive two buff colored cockers like she'd seen before, both were beautiful black with white markings quite similar to a border collie.

Stopping a little while later in Prescott, AR, Sue noticed Lucy was lying quite still on the floor, then noticed she was shivering. Sue immediately went back into the bunk. Layla was doing the same thing but laying on the bed. Sue sat down and wrapped her arms around both dogs and just sat with them, talking very calmly until they both stopped shaking.

All they needed was a little TLC and reassurance everything was okay. The trip on to Rockwall was just fine.

These two beautiful ladies were transferred to Anglie, a foster "Mom" for Cocker Spaniels, in Rockwall, TX, who will take them on to their new home in Austin, TX.

STEWART #118, 4 year old, 7.5 pound, male Toy Poodle began his journey in Bradford, PA, when Lead Co-ordinator Michelle G picked him up in her personal vehicle.

Michelle drove from the Akron, OH, area, to Bradford, PA, then swung down to DuBoise, PA, where she met another driver, Sue W, who took Flash and another companion.

Sue was headed to Illinois to deliver with the need to get a load directly to Texas. Now she either needed a repower or big time help getting a load through Little Rock, AR. Prayers work. Her next load was directly through Little Rock on the way to Fort Worth, TX.

Stewart was calm, cool and very sweet, although lonely. Sue says it was obvious he was missing his sister, Sissy, who was adopted by a rehabilitation rescue.

Sissy was born without the use of her back legs. Her new home will be able to help her, but the brother/sister team had to be broken up. Both had come to the Bradford rescue awhile after their owner died and a family member couldn't take care of them any longer.

FLASH #117, a 4 year old, thin 10 pound, male Dachshund began his journey in Bradford, PA, when Operation Roger Lead Col-ordinator Michelle G picked him up in her personal vehicle.

Michelle drove from the Akron, OH, area, to Bradford, PA, then swung down to DuBoise, PA, where she met another Operation Roger driver, Sue W, who took Flash and another companion. Sue was headed to Illinois to deliver with the need to get a load directly to Texas.

Now she either needed a repower or big time help getting a load through Little Rock, AR. Prayers work. Her next load was directly through Little Rock on the way to Fort Worth, TX.

Sue says Flash was long and sleek, black with brown, sweet, and very loving. He wanted to sit right in her lap or at least touching. He would make an excellent pet for a nursing home. He would get along with everyone.

In the post, Debbie wrote: "This little guy has been adopted and brought back 3 times making him unadoptable. He was brought back the first two times because he does not tolerate children. To my knowledge he did not bite them but he was not friendly to them. He was brought back the 3rd time because he was "too clingy" - wanted to "sit in my lap too much"!!! Olive did a layover with Dorianne S with the Catahoula Rescue in Valdosta, GA, until driver Danny Joe W came through. Danny took Olive on to Tampa where her new "Mom" met him.

Olive is good on a leash and rides well in a vehicle. She gets along with other dogs and is very animal and people friendly. Her story will have a happy ending.

She was left abandoned at a house after her people moved away. Catahoula Rescue stepped in for her when the new home owner refused to have anything to do with her.

Olive had a wonderful ride with her Operation Roger Drivers, Terry and Linda! It is always a pleasure to see them when they fly through Valdosta, GA!

We decided in the end to have Olive end her OR trip here rather than going on further south because there wasn't a solid plan for someone to pick her up, and during the week would be hard for her new mom. Since I was on the way, anyway, it made the most sense for her to stop her journey here....and I will meet her mom on Saturday for the final leg of her journey!

She is full of love and kisses and it is quite obvious she took to Terry and Linda! Wait until you see their photos! I will send an update to you when she gets to her forever home! DUCHESS #114 was an 8 week old, 5 pound, female Dachshund/Beagle pup, one of six dogs picked up in Roanoke, AL, by team drivers Hollis and Linda C in their own car and taken to meet another driver Tony C in Gadsen, AL.
Tony packed the six into his own personal vehicle and taken to the TN border to meet with Mary Ruth R who had agreed to be a layover home for the six until they could meet their rides to new homes.
Mary Ruth later drove back to the state line to meet with Tony who was to hold Duchess until her ride to New Jersey arrived.
All went well until Tony was making the transfer. He had picked up some Bar-B-Que beef and some potato salad for himself. He made the mistake of leaving the food in the car with Duchess and his own pet, Maria, when he got out.
Duchess bypassed the B-B-Q and went straight for the potato salad. She was quickly covered from nose to tail with the salad. With the help of handy wipes donated by a sympathetic lady, Duchess was soon cleaned up, somewhat, to continue her journey to her new home with Takeshi F in Tenafly, NJ.

He was always around and easy to find but an escapee nevertheless. Team drivers Gary and Pat L met John and Mary Ruth R in Nashville, TN.

Pat reports John was a pill, smart, sharp, hyper, nosey, and quite. He quickly found where Pat kept the treats and worked diligently to get to them. John was delivered to his new "Mom," a 13 year old young lady and her mother, Eileen A in Goshen, NY.
Pat said John went directly to the young girl and never left her side. There is no doubt John will have a good home.

#107 DUKE (Catahoula) Knoxville, TN-Los Alamos NM 87455

DUKE #107 a 2 y/o, 60#, Catahoula Leopard male began his journey in Bainbridge, GA, before being transported to Knoxville, TN, where Operation Roger team drivers Larry and Tanya H picked him up from Sandra R, an approved Catahoula Rescue foster.
Duke had been thoroughly temperament tested with people, kids and dogs and had passed with flying colors. However, Duke is NOT good with cats, PERIOD! Duke had been in a good shelter but it was a kill shelter.
They had kept Duke longer than his time because he is an exceptional dog! He is a mellow fellow but DOES have a prey drive (per his breed) and is NOT suited to travel or to live with cats.
Larry and Tanya can attest to Duke's prey drive and his dislike of long confinement in a vehicle as he tried on several occassions on the short trip from TN to NM to go through their windshield, cracking it on one occasion.  Apparently Duke couldn't figure out why there were no bars and yet he couldn't get outside.  He became quite a handful for them.
Duke was picked up in Albuqueque, NM, by Duke's new Catahoula Rescue foster "Mom" Robyn R.

#101 CINDY (Schnauzer Terrier) Anniston, AL - Sedalia, MO

CINDY #101, a 1 year old, 12#, Female has found herself a new home. One she never would have imagined.

Cindy showed up on the doorstep of team drivers Hollis & Linda C in Anniston, AL.  After a couple weeks, this team was preparing to leave for the road and knew they couldn't add a third pet to the two they already had on their rig.

After posting notices around and getting no responses concerning a lost dog, Linda called Classy Lady/Sue W who suggested she look on the section of our board where individuals could post what they would like to have.

Most of these posts are truck drivers seeking a furry companion.  Linda saw one there from September 2005 and figured the driver already had a pet but she called anyway. She was surprised to find someone she already knew in Operation Roger driver Joe F.

Joe made arrangements to meet Hollis and Linda in Anniston. When Joe called Classy Lady to report he had a companion on board she was confused knowing Joe had not been assigned to pick up a pet.

The lilt and happiness in his voice quickly dispelled that thought as Joe told her about the new lady in his life. This is definitely one happy driver and one soon-to-be spoiled pet.  Good luck Joe and Cindy, you will make a great team.

#100 HOOCH (Chow/Shepherd) Omaha, NE - San Diego, CA

HOOCH #100, a Chow/Shepherd mix, male about 45#, 8 months old had been a constant companion of Operation Roger driver Scott B for about 4-5 months making a good team.  Then, Scott's roommate's young daughter developed an allergy to Hooch at the same time Scott's boss informed him he could not take Hooch in the new truck Scott was being assigned.

At one San Diego delivery, the owner, Mike, looked forward to Scott and Hooch coming in. He would come out and play with Hooch. One day he happened to mention he wanted such a dog for his 13 year old daughter.   Needless to say, Hooch found himself a new home that day.

Scott reports he received a telephone call recently from Mike says the young girl and Hooch were getting along great.

WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM SCOTT 3/17/07
Scott called all excited. He had an update on Hootch! It seems Hootch is now a school teacher. Yep, a school teacher. He goes every day to a class where all the youngsters are mentally challeneged. It is a true love affair between teacher and students.

One young boy wrapped his arms around Hootch's neck and rode him. Once another child fell and Hootch went after him with his mouth open. The other teachers were horrified...at first. Hootch merely clamped his teeth gently on the child's shirt and lifted him up! Way to go Hootch.
