#234 BUTTERCUP (Italian Greyhound) Cape Coral, FL-Clinton, Ontario, Canada
BUTTERCUP #234 a tiny Italian Greyhound, 4#, 3 y/o female was picked up in Fort Meyers, FL, by driver Nancy R from Christa W of the Rocket Angel Italian Greyhound Rescue.
Buttercup stayed with Nancy a couple days before being re-powered by driver Danny Joe W in Reddick, GA. Danny Joe sped his small charge up to Detroit, MI, where he met with Buttercup's new "Mom" Dianne T who came over from Canada.
This little one was a special needs pet. A rescued breeder dog, she had suffered a broken leg, was fearful and skittish. Danny Joe reported little Buttercup was so scared she stayed in her crate most of the time.
Arranged by Christa W, Rocket Angel Italian Greyhound Rescue, Cape Coral, FL Operation Roger drivers Nancy R pu 12/21/07 - Danny Joe W pu 12/24/07 del 12/25/07 ******************* The following email has been received: Dear Honey: I wish to THANK YOU and trust you had a Blessed Merry Christmas and have a a very Happy and Blessed New Year in 2008!!
I must apologize for not contacting you sooner but I've been sick with bronchial pneumonia again so haven't been able to do much. I guess I was outside too much on Christmas Day without proper attire.
I wanted to personally and emphatically THANK YOU for all that you did to facilitate the transport of little Buttercup from Cape Coral to me here in Canada.
I had quite an adventure after I crossed the Ambassador Bridge at 9:30 p.m. into Detroit. I was my own "comedy of errors" through a misunderstanding on my part in the directions to meet up with Danny-Joe, Bless his heart!! He's such a true Angel!! He stuck with me however through the whole thing (I locked my keys in my car) and I eventually made it home around twenty to six a.m. There was very thick fog that only made it possible to drive 80 kms/hr or less as you couldn't see much past the nose of the car, all the way home.
I felt then, and still do, terrible about delaying Danny-Joe his trip home. I volunteered to call his wife and explain that it was my fault that he didn't make it home on Christmas Day, through my own stupidity. He said not to worry about it, that he'd been handling things with his wife for a long time.
He'd called me when he was only an hour-and-a-half away from Detroit as he didn't realize how far north I was and that it would take me two to three hours to arrive there. He said at that point that he was tired and didn't plan on travelling the rest of the way home but I still feel totally responsible for everything that happened. I am not normally so scatterbrained but the series of events that started that morning, before I even left my house, I guess, gave me more to deal with than my simple mind could handle.
Little Buttercup is fitting in beautifully with my other babies but avoids any direct contact with me. She watches me with my other Italian Greyhound who will be 18 on the 18th of this month and she comes close to sniff my hands and face but won't let me put my hands on her. It's going to take time to win her confidence as I did with my full-sized, ex-racing Greyhound when she first came. I don't want to rush her as I want her to feel that she can trust me, after all the terrible things that she's been through.
She's so very beautiful with a dark mask on her muzzle and very dark, deep set eyes with a white mark down the middle of her face between her eyes and four white feet. She's a gorgeous dark tan and the dark mask really accents her face. And she's so little, only eight pounds. She really loves her food though and it motivates her to come close to me. She hasn't missed a meal since she came so I know she's settling in a bit anyway.
She sure doesn't like the snow though...she's definitely a sun baby. She stuck her nose outside and went out about 3 steps onto the porch, the first morning she was here but couldn't get back inside quickly enough. As she's walking away, she looked back over her shoulder at me as if to say, "You've got to be kidding lady, if you think for one minute that I'm going out there!!" She actually glared at me. I had to laugh at the look on her face though...it was priceless!
I must go as I'm starting to cough but, I just wanted to reiterate and Thank You so very much again for all your work in getting Buttercup to me. The Lord works in mysterious ways and I truly believe that He was sure watching over me during my mishap in that bad part of Detroit, or I'd never have come out unscathed.
God Bless You and Yours Honey and if you get the chance, please say another prayer for Christa and all her helpers and the great work they do. Oh yes! and also for Danny-Jo and Nancy Reagan who coordinated the meeting. They really are fantastic people and you must be so pleased to have them as part of your Operation Roger Force.
Thank You and God Bless You and Keep You and Make His Face To Shine Upon You and Be Gracious Unto You.
Sincerest Best, Dianne & Babies. *************** The following e-mail has been received: Breakfast at Mc Donald'sTuesday, November 4, 2008 8:41 PM From: "Dianne" To: "operation roger" Dear Sue, Staff and Drivers:
I consider you all friends after the wonderful thing that you did by getting Buttercup from the Rocket Angel Italian Greyhound Rescue in Cape Coral, Florida up to Detroit for me to pick her up on Christmas Day in the evening, last year. It wouldn't have been possible without the extraordinary help of Nancy Regan and Danny Joe.
I know you haven't heard from me in a while but I just had to send this to you being the God-fearing wonderful organization that you are. I've told many people about your wonderful group of drivers and at first they don't believe me that there's truly anyone that would do this type of thing in this world of today, but I prove to them that they are so very wrong....Buttercup is living proof!! Again, many, many thanks for what you are doing to help so many of God's creatures to get to their furever homes and out of bad situations.
Buttercup is doing well, even though I still can't pick her up but as her personality develops, she's so funny and does such crazy things that I can't help but laugh at her. She's put on weight and looks like a dog now and her coat is nice and shiny. She sure loves her grub...if I need to get her to do anything, all I have to do is use food as an incentive, and suddenly...there she is...amazing eh? Many thank you's again for all that you do. Sincerely and with Much Love, Dianne, Buttercup, Tommy, Pepper and Mariah. ************************************************************************ #233 TIGER (Pit) Bedias, TX - Cordova, TN
TIGER #233 a brindle Pit, 3 y/o, 53#, began his journey in the Irving, TX, kill shelter from where he was rescued by Ginger B of Tuckers Tag Along. Tiger was first fostered in Grand Prairie before being driven down to Bedias to Regina T, of Taeger's Rescue, a layover home for Operation Roger. Regina had stepped forward to act as a foster for Tuckers Tag Along.
Driver Joerg T picked up Tiger from his wife, Regina. On the trip toward Fort Worth, Tiger decided to get under Joerg's feet and sit down on the brake pedal causing a very interesting situation. Another incident followed when they went through a guard shack. When the guard came out, Tiger met him at the truck's window, climbing over Joerg. The guard hurried back into the shack and refused to come out again.
Joerg renamed Tiger "Hooch," after a mischievous dog in a movie he had seen. Following a trip from Texas to Louisiana to North Carolina to Ohio, Tiger finally arrived in West Memphis, TN, to meet his new "Dad" Eric H. Joerg had arrived early at a truck stop where he was met by driver Sue W.
Unable to reach Eric, who was away on a trip but due back that afternoon, we began making inquiries into possible temporary quarters for Tiger when it became past time for Joerg to leave to continue his run. Sue called a former driver, Liz C, who promptly arrived to help.
As arrangement were being made, Eric returned to the area. Everything worked out for Tiger when Eric arrived from Cordova, TN. Tiger immediately took to Eric and when Eric took off running, Tiger was with him every step of the way, fully enjoying his new companion. Joerge, who had bonded with Tiger/Hootch, broke out into a wide smile knowing Tiger would be in a good home.

OTIS #232 an American Bulldog, 18 m/o 80# neutered male, rescued from a kill shelter, has traveled from Marshall, TX, with driver Jim F to his new home. After an overnight stop in Salt Lake City, UT, he then went on to Logan, UT, with Jim and his wife, Valarie, in their personal vehicle. There, Otis met his new loving family who drove down from Mountain Home AFB, ID.
Jim reports Otis would ride with his chin on Jim's leg while standing between the seats. He rode well and went quite happily with his "Dad" and "Mom" Jesse & Brandye S, a military family. JACKSON #231 a 6 m/o 40# male Beagle X has had quite a ride enroute from LaPlace, LA to Lakeside, CA. Jackson's story begins with his rescue in the Louisiana swamps by Marty. We can only assume he was a Katrina victim and had apparently been shunned by a pack of wild dogs when found. Over a period of time. Marty became ill and gave Jackson and his three cats to a friend who in turn surrendered them to a shelter. In stepped Sherrie S of the Riverlands SPCA. Sherrie found a rescue in Lakeside, CA, who would take them in and find them homes. A delay developed when a legal hold was put on the animals and at the same time the San Diego, CA, fires broke out.
We held off picking the four up until such time as driver Nancy R learned Jackson was getting stir crazy in the shelter and she decided to take him on board and try to work her way to California. As things often happen in our trucking world, her normal route to California was changed. As time went on, Nancy thought she would adopt Jackson herself. She even took Jackson home to meet the other dogs but that didn't work out too well.
Angela S, the rescuer in Lakeside, decided she needed Jackson out there. Nancy reluctantly headed toward California with her charge. In Ontario, she was met by Kathy L, a shuttle driver with us. Both ladies went together south to Temecula to meet with Angela and her fiance, Steve, who had driven up to get Jackson. Nancy says Jackson knew something was up and went right up to Angela as if he knew he was nearly home.
Nancy said Jackson loved to sit on her armrest with his left paw on the back of her right shoulder and lay his head on her shoulder and watch the scenery.

#229 LITTLE MAN (Mix) Bedias, TX-Worcester, MA
LITTLE MAN #229, a mix of unknown origin, 6 months, about 25#, male was abandoned near our Layover Home in Bedias, TX. It took Regina T a couple days to coax and urged the small, scared, timid pup to eat and drink. She finally won his trust. Then she began the task of finding him a home on petfinder.com.
Once she did, we had quite a time getting Little Man posted onto our pet board. Then, we couldn't get a driver into her area before her husband, Joerg T, one of our drivers, came home.
Joerg put Little Man on board with him with the intention of us finding him a re-power to get the little guy on up to MA. However, as often happens, Little Man became very important to Joerg. He decided he wanted to meet the new "Dad and Mom" and to keep Little Man on board until they could get dispatched to MA.
Joerg reportedly stayed with Jan H and her husband two days during which time Little Man, now renamed Manny, and his new "Dad" became inseparable. Joerg left knowing Manny would be forever in a good, loving home. Operation Roger driver Joerg T pu 11/5/07 del 11/17/07 *************************************************************
#228 PACO (Husky X) Ashland, WI - Orlando, FL PACO #228, a Husky mix, 18 mo, 45# male desperately needed a ride from Ashland, WI, to Orlando, FL. Paco and his human, Paula, lived in an apartment. Then, Paula's landlord began demanding she get rid of Paco immediately. Her friend, Lisa, in Orlando agreed to take Paco until Paula could find pet friendly housing. Paula hid him for awhile until we could arrange transport.
Two of our driver's, Josh W and Danny Joe W, stepped up and provided that transport. Josh met Paula at his shipper in Bensenville, IL. Josh kept Paco overnight and then transferred him to Danny Joe W in Columbus, OH. Danny Joe then met the Lisa in Florida.

Picked up in Weatherford, TX, by driver, Jim F, Prince Casler was shy at first but soon warmed up to Jim. He found himself his own little cubby hole in the bunk area and make himself comfortable. #226 POLY-ZOOM (Polydactyl Kitten) Hot Springs,AR - York, ME
POLY-ZOOM #226 a tiny, tiny 9 week old Calico Polydactyl Kitten began her journey in Hot Springs, AR. Her owner, Gerald H brought her to driver Sue W in Malvern, AR. Sue took Poly and her two maltipoo companions with her when they visited her brother in Prescott that night. Found to have fleas, they proceeded to give her a dunking which she took right in stride.
Over the next six days, Poly proceeded to make friends with Louie and Douie. She loved to play with Douie's long ears, snuggle up with him, and made him her friend. Louie wasn't quite so easy to make friends with but by the time Poly made her next transition to her new home, even Louie was tolerating her.
On Wednesday night, Poly was transferred to Michelle G, a layover home, for a few hours until another driver, Jerry H, was able to come through Revenna, OH, to pick her up. Early on Friday morning, Poly's new family, Ernie & Jan H and their 11 year old son, Alexander, arrived to meet their new family member.
At last report, Poly had settled into her new home and was winning over her new four-legged friend. Operation Roger driver Kelly A pu 10-23-07 del 10-24-07 ************************************************************* We have received a follow up on SCOOBY and ZOE from their adoptive “Mom” Cheryl N 3/24/09 Cheryl says that when Scooby was picked up in Carthage he looked up at Driver Kelly A, and according to Kelly his eyes said “Oh, no. You’re not going to take me either, are you?” At that point, Kelly was determined to take him and moved everything around in her truck to make room. He wasn’t going to be left behind. It took Suzanne, Debbie D, and Kelly to load Scooby into the truck as he stiffened when lifted. Kelly gave both doggie treats and turned on the radio. Both dogs kept looking trying to find the source of the music and had no clue as to what it was and why it was coming from the dash. Now Scooby had lost a lot of hair because of depression. The vet said Scooby didn’t understand why people would take the little puppies and not him. Scooby and Zoe were found in a garbage dumpster at the age of 5 weeks. A lady named Nancy who worked nearby at Panola County Humane Society in Carthage found them. Because of hair loss between his front legs and neck, he seemed to be shy. Kelly decided to put a bandana on him to cover the area of loss. After that he was strutting like he was worth a million dollars according to Cheryl. For about a week, he would not allow anyone near him if he thought they were going to remove the bandana. Scooby now weights 90 pounds. Zoe is more active than Scooby who depends upon his sister. Zoe now weighs about 70 pounds. Both are at proper weight now. Cheryl sang the praises of Driver Kelly A. Thanks Kelly. *************************************************************
#223 MICKEY (Heeler/Hound) Valley View, TX - Lakeside, MT Mickey #223, a year old, 45# male Heeler/Hound has made his journey north from Valley View, TX. Picked up north of Denton, TX, by driver Randy J, Mickey reportedly rode well, quickly adapting to his unusual ride. Randy says Mickey is tri-colored, like a beagle.
Apparently, Mickey had made quite an impression on his foster Mom, Marty, for she shed a few tears when he left. Mickey is a little timid at first but he warmed right up to Randy. He had never been in a house before he arrived at Marty's, but it did not take him long to get used to being in. He soon went up and down the steps and in and out the door like he had always been there.
Randy reports the first night, Mickey was so well behaved he couldn't even be enticed with food up onto the bunk (bed). He chose to sleep on the floor. However, sometime during the trip, Randy missed him on the floor. Looking back into the bunk, there was Mickey, all settled in and watching the scenery through the windshield. Normally, though, Mickey would ride on floor when the truck was moving. As soon as Randy would get out, Mickey was on his seat, watching his every move.
Marty sent a card along with Randy with instructions not to open it until his next stop, which he did. The card reads in part .... "Thank you again for your efforts on getting Mickey to a loving home. Your group's efforts is greatly appreciated."
On the other end of the trip, Randy took Mickey home with him in UT. From there, Randy drove his personal vehicle from Ogden to Butt, MT. The new Dad, Eric, drove all the way down from Lakeside to meet them. Once again, an Operation Roger driver shows his big heart by going the extra mile to give a helping hand to a pet in need.

From there Jeff reports Micah rode well, even getting in and out of the truck with no problems. He was very obedient and very well trained.
Micah is a special pet for he was trained especially by his owner/trainer Sara D for service and assistance to Audrey in Idaho Falls, ID. After an upcoming surgery to remove a tumor, Audrey will need Micah to hear for her.
As an added note, Jeff and his wife, Darla, went the extra mile to deliver Micah. On his way home when he picked up Micah, Jeff and Darla took him in their personal car from their home in Ogden, UT, all the way up to Idaho Falls, right to Audrey's doorstep. #220 CINNABON a 5 y/o 3# Male, and #221 LITTLE MAMA a 5 y/o 2.5# Female Ferrets were picked up near Louisville, KY, by team drivers Chris & Brandy P and safely delivered to their destination in Gallup, NM.
The ferrets came in a carrier and had food and water set up for them inside the carrier. Chris and Brandy report the ferrets were very tame, had great dispositions, and were definitely lovable. Their two on-board companions met them with differing reactions. Gizmo, the Yorkie, thought they were strange looking dogs and wanted to play while Little Joe, the Poodle, simply kept his distance. By the end of the trip, both Cinnabon and Little Mama had "kissed" Gizmo on the nose.
Little Mama and Cinnabon were rescued from a a large backyard breeder in Ohio who had over 700 ferrets outside in deplorable conditions. They were breeding indiscriminately and resulted in more of a hoarding situation than a breeding one. This pair are two of 14 first taken from the breeder, with nearly 50 more coming.
Transporting them to their new home in New Mexico clears out cage space to take in more of the rescues. The rescuers report "It's overwhelming!" Though not socialized when coming off the "farm", neither of these two were ever aggressive and once they were spayed and neutered, their dispositions turned into that of mushy little sweethearts. Mama will give you kisses and Cinnabon will cuddle.
Jerri C, the foster Mom, met this team with a sign which read "New Mexico or Bust." The receiver, Clover W, has a separate room especially set up for Cinnabon and Little Mama to enjoy.
Chris and Brandy didn't say if the rescuer's caution of "Once holding the ferret, a driver may have the sudden urge to acquire one of this lovely creatures" tempted them.

WE HAVE RECEIVED THIS UPDATE: Thursday, November 12, 2009 7:07 PM To: operationroger01@yahoo.com
Hello, I just went to your web site, and I see that Cinnabon and Little Mama are listed. I do want to give an update. Both are doing wonderfully. At about 7 years old or more, they are elderly for ferrets but they play like kids and get along just like an old married couple. She gets grumpy, he teases her out of it. She seems convinced that I am her baby, and will groom me and check on me to make sure that I am where she thinks I belong. They have their own cage because Little Mama insists on trying to kill very young ferrets and all females.(I guess that's how she learned to care for her own babies in the horrible place they both came from, so I really don't blame her. But she's three times the size of most females, so they don't stand a chance. He gets along with all ferrets, but doesn't mind that she puts a lid on his social life.) They both love humans, though.
We have moved to the "deep rez" area of Shonto, AZ. That's just above AZ 160, about an hour south of Page. I know most trucks don't come through this way, but I would be happy to share a holiday dinner with Chris and Brandy or any Operation Roger drivers who find themselves away from home and in the area for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Or, at New Year's the locals have a really wonderful 3-day Pow-Wow that I'd be happy to bring them to. Lots of drumming and dancing and frybread.
Please thank Chris and Brandy again for me, and for Cinnabon and BonBon (that's what I call Little Mama). And thanks to all of you.
I can't find their pictures, but will send them when I do. --Clover and the rezweezils ****************************************************************************************************
#219 SMILEY (Black Lab) Bartlesville,OK - Cambridge,VT
SMILEY # 219, a Black lab, 3-4 y/o, 60#, Male has made it from Bartlesville, OK, to his new home in Cambridge, VT, thanks to team driver Miles and B.J. F.
Smiley was found as a stray in April of this year. When the tremendous rains fell in Oklahoma in July, a volunteer from VT came down to help. In the process she became attached to three of the dogs. Returning home, she watched all three on the internet until she saw all but Smiley had found homes and his time was running out. Determined not to let Smiley be euthanized, she decided to adopt him and began paying his boarding fees until he could be transported.
Miles and B.J. found Smiley to be very friendly, smart, obedient, and obviously had been well trained. Once he got the hang of getting in and out of the truck, he then would do it on his own. B.J. reports Smiley would even look back at her to get permission to get on the bed. He would take treats from their hands very tenderly.
Smiley traveled by car from Bartlesville to Tulsa where he met his ride and also their team leaders Chris & Brandy P at a truck stop. His new Mom drove down from Cambridge, VT, to Aneonia, NJ. Miles and B.J. arrived ahead of time and were out walking Smiley. They report he walked to the edge of the grass and stood "looking left" as if he was expecting someone he knew. Indeed, his new Mom did arrive from the left and the reunion was tremendous. Smiley recognized her immediately and that was that. He knew he was home at last. A very, very happy puppy dogie.
The drivers reported on another unexpected development on this transport. Much to their surprise and delight, when they picked up Smiley, they were presented with a fruit basket the new Mom had sent down for them. Then, upon their arrival in N.J., they were presented with a gift card.

#218 DUSTY (Great Pyrenees) Indianapolis, IN - Billings, MT
DUSTY #218, a 17 m/o, 85# Great Pyrenees has made it home to Billings, MT, safe and sound, although happy to stretch his long legs.
The original owners had a goat farm in Indiana and bought Dusty to herd the goats. Every time he went into the field of Fainting Goats, they would get so scared of him they would faint. So the owners gave him up to the rescue. Jim, a volunteer, brought Dusty to driver Kathy Y at Huntington, IN.
Dusty was very shy, quiet, gentle, didn't bark, and was very laid back. Because of his size, Kathy had to put his paws on the floorboard and then pick his rear up and shove him inside. He tried once to get inside himself but his size prevented him from doing so again. Kathy's dogs barked for the first four hours Dusty was on board.
Kathy had to stop at a terminal shop for truck repair. The mechanics reaction at seeing Dusty was pure disbelief. Once they got over their shock, they were interested in the breed and even played with him. Linda M, the receiver, called several times, so anxious to get Dusty.
At the Fying J near Billings, Linda M ran to Kathy's truck calling "where is he, where is he?" She was so excited but Dusty was too shy to go to her at first. So Kathy walked him a bit to get him settled down. When Linda drove her pick-up close to Kathy's truck, Dusty jumped into the bed, turned, and looked at Kathy as if to say, "At last, I'm home."
Dusty is having his own "block party" so everyone can meet him. The whole neighborhood has heard about him for two months.
During the trip, Dusty sat in the passenger seat and receive many astonished comments from other drivers. Lots of people came over to pet him when she had Dusty out for a walk. This breed is used for rescue and animal herding and are part of the genes for making Saint Bernards.
Kathy said both her shipper and receiver were astonished truckers would even take strange animals on our trucks. To take a dog this size blew their minds.
One of Kathy's dogs would sleep on the floor with Dusty instead of the bed. Kathy feels Lady Mimi felt sorry for him because he couldn't sleep on the bed.
In size, Dusty, standing, came up to Kathy's chest. On hind legs, he was better than 6 feet tall. However, Dusty will reach about 175#, so at 85#, he is only half grown!! He will continue to grow until he is 3 years old.
Linda said she had looked through thousands of photos until she found Dusty. He looked like the pet she had lost just six months ago. Linda works for a college and will be taking Dusty with her.
Linda gave Kathy a thank you card with the following inside. "Dear Kathy, Thank you so much for taking the time to bring me to my forever home. You can never know how much my new Mom and I appreciate you and Operation Roger. We waited two months for you because you were the perfect choice. Please have a peaceful meal on us. Dusty and Linda"
Kathy reported that also printed on the card was the following: It was so nice of you and appreciated more than words can say.
When asked if she would ever again transport such an animal, Kathy's quick response was "In a heart beat."

#217 DEEBO (Lab X) Williamson, GA - Wharton, TX
Deebo #217, a 2 y/o 45# male Lab X was transferred from Williamson, GA, to Wharton,TX, by driver Brian B. This is not a story we want to write. While Deebo will have a much better life at the Smiling Dog Farm in Wharton, TX, his transport did not go well largely to the fact the information given to Operation Roger was incorrect and the attitudes of the people involved.
We have learned the Smiling Dog Farm is in fact a sanctuary for unadoptable animals. That bit of important information should have been on the post for transport. We thank God for such a place and for Jay H who runs it. Deebo and others like him will be able to live out their lives there. However, we must point out Operation Roger is a volunteer service and our drivers do not have to take any animal they feel uncomfortable with. We do not force any animal on any driver. A reputable shipper will not either, yet this was done.
We want to thank Kindle G of the FBL (Fueled By Love) Greyhound Rescue, Beaumont, TX, who stepped in to take Deebo from our driver who was being forced to return to GA with Deebo when the receiver refused to meet him in the wee hours of the morning. We must reiterate, all transfers must be done on the driver's schedule, whatever the time. We do feel the receiver may not have been informed of this requirement and give him the benefit of the doubt.
Unfortunately, because of this, two other unadoptable dogs out of Georgia will not be transported by this organization. This we regret. This point of all this is.... we need ALL the pertinent information regarding each animal. Let us find the right driver. Don't leave anything out or bad relationships result...to the detriment of the animals. Be truthful.

#216 AURA (Lab X) Harrisburg, PA - Tulare, CA
AURA #216, a Female Black Lab Mix, 10 weeks, 8-10# has had quite a young life. Born on board a truck, Aura was adopted by a truck driver, Jennifer L, who then learned she could not have any pet on board her truck less than six months and was thus in jeopardy of losing her job.
Put in touch with Classy Lady, Jennifer, then in Harrisburg, PA, was in tears. Classy Lady contacted driver Chris C, who lives near there. In AL at the time, Chris contacted Dwayne M, his brother-in-law, who met Jennifer at a truck stop and took the pup home with him until Chris' wife and family could return from out of town.
The plan was for the original truck drivers, Kathy and Clint, in CA by this time, to return to PA on their return trip. However, the best of plans do go astray. Chris' family kept Aura until Chris returned home. He then took Aura on board with him, planning to meet Clint somewhere along the way or get a repower on to Tulare, CA, and to Kathy.
That didn't happen either so Chris took Aura back when he went home the next time. By this time, Chris' 13 y/o daughter, Chasity, was getting rather attached to Aura and, according to Chris, they had enough dogs at home already.
Our co-ordinator, Leanne and the team leaders for Operation Roger were frantically trying to get Aura back to Clint and Kathy and out of Chris' home when Clint finally made it to York, PA, where he was met with Aura.
Once again, one of Operation Roger drivers came to the rescue of a stranded pup. Thanks, Chris, and to your wonderful family.

#213 HEYU (Japanese Chin) Flower Mound, TX - Orange State,CA
Heyu #213 a white with a touch of beige, 5 y/o, 12 pounds Male Japanese Chin began his traveles in Flower Mound, TX, with David and Carolle Cox. Driver Randall M picked Heyu up in Oklahoma City, OK, from the Cox's. Heyu met his new "Mom" Laura A in Mira Loma, CA, before continuing on to Orange State,CA.
Randall thought a better name for this boy would be "Grouch" after Oscar the Grouch because he was very irritible when woke up before he was ready to be woke up. He would turn on his back with all four legs in the air and groan/moan in protest. He would lay half in/half out of his crate and give Randall a look as if to say ...... "Leave me alone!"
The Japanese Chin is a mix of King Charles Spaniel, a Pug, and a Pekinese. Therefore, to touch Heyu's nose would be like touching a gold fish according the Randall. The one thing Randall noted was Heyu would purr like a cat when stroked and loved on.
Heyu didn't smell good as he's in the last stages of recovering from a skin problem. He's quiet, but does beg and plead if he smells anything he thinks may be food. He isn't entirely house trained. He was a long-term foster due to his condition upon arrival in JCCARE. He's on his way to that "mommy".
Heyu doesn't trust people entirely, due to his former life. This shows itself as a bit of reluctance to launch out and do unfamiliar things. He traveled with food and treats the shippers wanted him to have.

Danny Joe reports Fargo was very small for a Catahoula with exceptional blue eyes, more lucent than most. She rode well in the truck and was, over all, a great dog. He readily admitted Fargo was so laid back and gentle he wanted to take her home with him. But, alas, she had to go on to Detroit, MI, where she met her foster "Mom" Angie B.

I tried to figure out how to do this on the site, but couldn't = so, could you please post my thank you in the appropriate section:I just received my little schnauzer mix puppy (Deacon) from Longview, Texas and wanted to say how pleased I am with ORs service, and by Brian, the truck driver who kindly brought Deacon to me in Atlanta, GA. I had considered driving all the way to Texas to pick up my rescue, but it was going to be a very long and expensive trip, because I wouldn't have been able to do it in one day. Flying him to Atlanta wasn't an option at this time of year due to the heat and humidity factors. Operation Roger to the rescue..
Brian B. was kind, professional and called me when he was on his way to let me know what time he'd be here, gave me perfect directions to the Pilot truck stop and was there exactly when he said he would be. This is such a great organization. Thanks to Classy Lady, and all the wonderful truckers along our highways for providing such a valuable and needed service. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!! Thanks... #210 SAYDIE (Corgie) Medora, IL - Dewey, AZ *
Saydie #210, a beautiful tri-colored 1.5 y/o, 20 pound Female Pembrook Welch Corgie started her journey in Medora, IL, with Tasha M. Eager to go, she easily settled into the truck with no qualms about anything. Picked up near Alton, IL, by driver Sue W, Saydie made friends with Sue's two malti-poo's, Louie and Douie.
Saydie had bonded with Tasha's grandmother on her two trips back to Illinois this summer and when it became apparent Saydie needed more attention than Tasha's family could give her, Peggy F, the grandmother, said send her out to AZ. On the second day on board, Saydie decided being lifted into the truck wasn't good enough. As Sue turned to put her inside, she scrambled in herself!
In Dewey, as Saydie awaited the reunion she was unaware was about to happen, she was constantly walking. When this car stopped not far from us, she stopped to look. When Peggy walked around the front of the car, Saydie froze, both ears pointed forward, her body almost "on point." You could almost see the wheels turning in her head. Then Peggy called her name and that was it. Saydie rushed to Peggy all wiggely and giving her kisses.
After a bit, she came back to give Sue and her grandaughter, Ashleigh, kisses as well. Then, Saydie scrambled up the steps of the truck to where Louie and Douie stood watching from the open doorway and gave them their goodbyes.

#205 TRIGGER (Dalmation) Fort Wayne, IN - Sacramento, CA *
Trigger #205, a Dalmation, 5 years, 65 pound Male began his unusual trip in Fort Wayne, IN, with team drivers Chris and Brandy P. Trigger was the personal pet of Reggie M's mother. When her mother passed away, the family he was placed with after Reggie returned to CA could no longer keep him. He is a special needs dog because he has had surgery in the past for urinary problems and is on special food.
Chris and Brandy were originally scheduled to pick up a load in Fort Wayne and had arranged to pick up Trigger. Then their load was cancelled, and they couldn't get there with their truck. They went far and above what is expected of our drivers by personally renting a car and driving from Chicago, IL, to Fort Wayne, IN.
Brandy fell in love with Trigger, but Trigger was initially scared of Chris and Brandy's little Yorkie. Trigger like to alternate between sleeping on the bunk with Brandy or sitting in the passenger seat whenever she drove.
Trigger arrived in Ontario, CA, where he was met by Cindy's fiance, Luke and taken on to Sacramento to be reunited with Cindy. A heart wrenching note about Trigger. He was close to Cindy's mom and at the exact moment of her death, he howled.

Ms. Honey Edwards, I simply want to say thank you for all your efforts to get my form posted and especially your patience. I would also like to let you know what a wonderful transport you found for my kitties. As you know it was Chris and his wife Brandy who did this service for us. They did such a thoughtful and excellent job. They were very loving to the kitties...very kind. They were incredibly professional in every way. They kept me completely posted at every phase of their trip. When they would tell me they would call at different points in their progress towards me they did, exactly on time. At the final pick up where we met in Kimball Nebraska they arrived about 10 minutes after I arrived...Brandy carried my kitties to my vehicle, what a surprise...She spotted me before I spotted her.
She spent at least five minutes talking to the kitties and comforting them before she left us, telling the kitties everything would be okay...What a sweet lady...It was about 3:45am, I never did get to meet Chris in person, hope he was sleeping...Anyway this is my forever impression of your lovely service to our animals and people that love them. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! Glenda Larsen : NEBRASKA

Rex was definitely confused but reportedly a good traveler. When he arrived in Roswell and saw his owner, Myron, he was estatic, so much so he peed all over. This was definitely one happy doggie.
An added note of humorous interest. Topping a hill near Roswell, Glenn met a NM highway patrol who informed Glenn he was a smidgen over the acceptable speed limit. #186 TAIL/#187 TAILLESS (St.Bernard/Great Pyrness) Nacogdoches, TX - Prescott, AZ
TAIL #186 and TAILLESS #187, two St. Bernard/Great Pyrenees mixes, both 5 mo old St. Bernard and Great Pyrenees mixes, weighing 50# each, were in the right place at the right time. Driver Mike W and Sheane, sister to his regular Blue Heeler companion, Dillon, just happened to be in the area and picked up the pups not long after they were posted on our website. Mike reports both were skittish, undernourished, and afraid of humans.
The moment the pups got on board, Sheane, herself around 50#, headed for the farthermost corner of the bunk she could find, totally unsure of what was happening. However, it didn't take long for her to warm up to the pups and all would play.
Mike worked with the pups by having them walk up to people at truck stops and his shippers and receivers. By the time the two reached their destination two days later, they were getting over their shyness.
Mike said he had gone in to eat and came back to the truck only to find himself face to face with three dogs, teeth bared. They weren't going to let him into the truck. He said "Hey, boys, it's just me." All three looked at him sheepishly as if to say, "Gee, Dad, we're just kidding."
Tailless loved to sit in the passenger seat and gave the New Mexico border patrol quite a start as Mike rolled through the inspection station. Later, while out for a walk, Tail spotted some quail and took out after them, dragging Mike behind him and giving Mike some exercise he hadn't planned on.
The pups were safely delivered to their new family. Mike reports 5-6 kids piled out of an SUV and were quite delighted with their new charges. He feels the two will be in a good home.

Danny reported Joyce was true to her hound/pointer nature and was very happy to be out of a kennel. He had to keep a very tight reign on her when outside the truck.

#184 RYAN/HITCH (Springer Spaniel X) Kellyville, OK - Iron Mountain, MI
RYAN #184, a 9 week old Springer Spaniel-Irish Setter Mix, Male has finally made it to his new home. Ryan, renamed Hitch because he was hitchhiking his way home, began his journey in Sulpulpa, OK, with his foster Mom. Rescuer Carol L brought him to a truck stop in Tulsa, OK, to meet driver Sue W.
Hitch rode with Sue and her small companion, Louie, all the way to Bethlehem, PA, then back west to Columbus, OH, then north to Wheeling, IL. Unable to get any closer to Iron Mountain, they started back east toward PA again.
In stepped driver Candy G and her three little companions, Terra, Tess, and Doc, to take over in Spiceland, IN. Hitch then went to Kansas City, KS, and back up into Chicago, IL, before making it on up to Manitowoc, WI, where he was met by his new adoptive "Mom" Nichole S who, along with a friend, had driven down from Iron Mountain. Once again it took two drivers and the help of the adoptive Mom to get a rescued pet to a loving home.
Hitch was a sweety, so soft, playful. Sue reports he loved to lay his head on her feet while she sat on the bunk and gently, quietly, untie her shoe laces before she knew what he was doing.
Candy's three didn't quite approve of this interloper but did eventually warm up enough to play. Candy has been with Operation Roger for a little over a year, serving most of that time as a board member and team leader. This was her first transport. Thanks, Candy, for hanging in there and waiting for just the right moment to make a definite difference in a pet's life.

#182 COCOA PUFF (Chi) Terrell, TX - Braden, B.C. Canada
COCOA PUFF #182, Chihuahua 6-7 years, 7#, Female has completed her travels from her former home in Terrell, TX, after her elderly owners had to be put into a nursing home, where they passed away, to her new loving home in Braden, B.C., Canada.
Cocoa Puff was rescued by Cindy S from the back yard where she had been for a month, starving, blind in one eye, and understandably protective of any food. Debbie B was contacted and posted Cocoa Puff's picture on Petfinder.com and found a loving home with Janice M in Branden, B.C., Canada.
As soon as Cocoa Puff came on our board, the Operation Roger organization began the task of finding just the right driver to do the transport. In this case, three drivers were in place. Team Leader Kathy Y picked Cocoa Puff up in Terrell. She kept her on board until she made her way to Yakima, WA, where Janet K repowered her. Janet kept Cocoa Puff with her with plans to repower her with our Canadian driver Ray C a few days later in Seattle, WA.
However, the new "Mom" Janice couldn't wait to get her new family member. She and a friend drove down to Marys, WA, where they met with Janet. We appreciate Ray's willingness to contribute his time and effort, but once again, an anxious owner couldn't wait for him to make the return trip from Canada to Seattle and back.
Thanks for everyone's contribution of time and effort to help little Cocoa Puff. As an added note, this was both Kathy's and Janet's first transport. Thanks, gals.

#179 SKYLAR (LabX) Little Rock, AR - Dallas, TX
SKYLAR #179, a 2 m/o 12#, female Labrador mix rescued by Stacy H in Little Rock, AR, was one of three puppies Stacy found running the streets. They were part of a litter of ten. Regretfully, Stacy said she wanted to but couldn't rescue all of them. She then contacted Debbie B of the AR Southern Dog Rescue for help in finding homes for them.
The adopter, Kelly M and her family of Arlington,TX, had already been approved for another pet. When that one fell through, Debbie quickly e-mailed Kelly a picture of Skylar and the rest, as they say, is history.
Driver Sue W was on her way out of OH through the Little Rock area toward her home in TX when Skylar came on the board. She immediately notified the co-ordinators and Debbie of her route and arranged to pick up the pup in Alexander, AR, at a small truck strop just west of Little Rock. She met with Kelly at Wal-Mart in Arlington, TX, about midnight.
Sue reports Skylar (now renamed Abbie) was fightened at first but soon curled up in a ball on the floor with her head on the gear shift boot and went sound to sleep. Enroute, they visited with Sue's brother. Sue thought Skylar would stay up with her brother while she went to bed. But, no. Skylar came into the room, put her paws up on the edge of the bed, and whined. Sue lifted her up onto the bed where Skylar promptly curled up into a ball, laid her head on Sue's ankles, and went fast asleep.

SASSY #178, a fiesty Jack Russell Terrier female was picked up in Little Rock, AR, from Debbie by driver Glenn W. At first, Sassy was timid and shaky, but it wasn't long before Glenn's kind voice and soft touch changed all that. Before the trip was over, Sassy had Glenn thinking hard about having her on the truck with him all the time.
Thanks, Glenn. Once again the caring heart of an Operation Roger driver has made a difference in the life of a rescued pet.

#177 HOLLY (Lab/Golden X) Little Rock, AR - Argusville, ND
HOLLY #177, a beautiful Labrador/Golden Retrieve mix, 1 y/o, about 35#, female became a star on this trip which began with her being rescued from a Little Rock, AR, kill shelter, being fostered in a Cabot rescue, and then being the subject of a film crew who followed her journey which was to culminate in Argusville, ND
Debbie B, her rescuer, said Holly was a sweet little dog who has been at the shelter a LOOOOOOOONG time! Apparently she is either so sweet or was just overlooked when it was time to euthanize. But thank goodness for that — now she has a wonderful forever home to go to where she will be loved and pampered for the rest of her life
In Jan 07 Classy Lady/Sue received a call from Nicole Henrich of RIVR Media in Nashville, TN. They had picked the Operation Roger ... Truckers Pet Transport group to film a demo.
Our assignment was to identify a couple of our pets needing rides and let them know their stories, which needed to be compelling and have a Pet Finder connection. We put out the word and quickly found three possibilities. These puppy doggy stories were then relayed back to Nichole. Her team considered the possibilities and decided upon Holly.
Our next task was to find not only just the right driver to transport Holly but the driver would also agree to be on film. This proved to be a bigger task for not all drivers wanted to be filmed.
Driver John K stepped up to the plate and picked up Holly on Sunday 1/29. He not only had Holly on board with him and his Lab X, Buddy, but also one of the cameramen, Brud G, rode along while another cameraman, Dave S, followed in the chase vehicle. The journey took them south to Baton Rouge, LA, on John's run before heading north toward North Dakota.
Two cameramen were about to get a crash course into the trucking world! After extensive filming the trio split off in West Memphis, AR, on 1/30. The cameramen headed for Springfield, MO, where they filmed Operation Roger Assistant Co-ordinator, Leanne S, keeping the Lead Co-ordinator, Michelle G, of OH, apprized of the transport.
In the meantime, John K headed for Cincinnati, OH, where he picked up about 200# of surplus dog food a Chow rescue there wished to share with the Laverne Chow Rescue, north of Minneapolis, MN.
Holly's new "parents," Mike and Sara, drove from their home in Argusville, ND, to Minneapolis, MN, to meet with John, the two cameraman, and Holly.
That day, the temperature was well below O degrees with the wind driving the temperature down even further. John reports the transfer of some 200# of dog food from the upper bunk of his truck to the vehicle of the receiving rescue was done in less than 10 minutes.
Arranged by Debbie Brattan, AR Southern Dog Rescue, Little Rock, AR Operation Roger driver John K pu 1/28/07 del 2/4/07 ************************************************************* The following message was received from the Chow rescue from Laverne, MN:
We met John on his recent trip to Minnesota — we stored the dog food coming from Ohio to Laverne , Mn.
John is a very genuine guy, concerned and very excited about Operation Roger and impressed us with his dedication — unloading dog food at -30 wind chills!
It is great to know about your organization and we are happy to help in anyway we can! If you have trucks coming to the Twin Cities from Ohio that can take the rest of the dog food for Laverne Chow Rescue, let us know — we have a person driving from the Twin Cities to Laverne about twice a month and can get it moved. Blessings, Barbara Miller —Fleischhaker ********************* In another added note to this transport, Operation Roger would like to congratulate John on another accomplishment: On February 17, 2007, at the 2nd Annual Truckers Ball held in Scranton, PA, sponsored by Nighttime, a short-wave radio program, John's photo of Holly and Buddy, John's own pet, won First Place in the photo contest. This contest was open to all truck drivers to showcase photos they had taken. Judging was done by all the participants attending the ball.
Second place in the same photo contest went to Operation Roger driver Chris C for his picture of Capone. Fourth place went to another Operation Roger driver, Candy G, for her photo of the Japanese Gardens in Huntington, CA.
Congratulations to all three of these drivers *************************************************************

#175 PONGO (JRT) Gainesville, FL - Chattanooga, TN
PONGO #175, a Jack Russell Terrier, 7 m/o, 20#, male has made his second journey with Operation Roger...Truckers Pet Transport.
A few months ago, he was adopted by Terry W. It was unknown at the time Pongo was deaf. After much deliberation, Terry decided she was not equipped to handle Pongo and it was in his best interests to be returned to the rescue for placement with someone who could handle a special needs pet.
Terry met driver Danny Joe W near Ocala, FL, who then took Pongo back to Misty S in Chattanooga, TN.
Danny Joe reports Pongo is very rambunctious. He didn't like Danny Joe's Chow X, Old Black, near his cage but was friendly once he was out of it. Then he proved he was a puppy when he chewed some papers to shreds Danny Joe had left lying around. Old Black just looked at Pongo and his mess as if to say "Dumb Dog, now look what you did."

Tony reported Ava caused a bit of a comotion at one of the truck stops enroute. As he came out of a restaurant, he noticed other drivers staring at his truck and laughing. As he got closer, he saw Ava standing on the steering wheel with ALL four of her paws, earnestly watching for Tony's return.
