Success Stories
Operation Roger has had many happy endings from all the transports we have done. If you have a success story to tell us about a pet we have helped, please send an Email to operationroger01@yahoo.com and include a photo-we would love to share it with our visitors!
The latest completed transport stories are found under Information/Success Stories. We will add the update on the pet in red below our story. The stories found here are listed by the latest completed transport number at top. If you know your pets transport number, you may quickly find it in this manner. All of these stories will eventually be segmented into groups of about twenty.
This particular section you are reading now, located under Animals/Success Stories, lists the stories by the pet's transported alphabetical name. However, within the confines of each letter, the names may not be alphabetical. Confused? Don't worry. Scroll around and you will be able to locate your pet eventually. Sorry, but this is the result of the program, not us. If the pet’s name was changed enroute or at a later date, it will not show under the new name.
If you remember the approximate date of the transport and can't find your pet's story, Email us that information and transport name. We will endeavor to find the story for you.
We are always striving to improve our website. We hope you like what you see.
HAZEL #296
#296 HAZEL (Jack Russell Terrier) Hamilton, CN - San Fernando, CA
HAZEL #296 a JRT 3.7 y/o 20# female has quite a story to tell starting in about April 2008. It seems she left England with a man who wasn’t her owner. Once she arrived in Canada, she was passed on to two other people who agreed to help the man out by fostering his dog. During this time, the true owner, Jane C, put Hazel on our Pet Board. When we tried to pick her up, we discovered Hazel was missing in action. Frantically, Jane made numerous overseas calls to locate her pet. After about two weeks she told us where Hazel was staying.
As we have no drivers currently going into the Toronto area on a regular basis, we were despaired of being able to help as the party who had Hazel was reluctant to drive her over into Buffalo, NY, to meet a driver. One morning, Driver Mark S called in saying he was near Toronto and asked if there was anything he could pick up. Was there ever!! After many phone calls, Mark picked up Hazel the next day.
The story is: In June a man walked into a pet store where a young vet student, Laura, worked. He asked her if she would keep his dog for two weeks while he returned to England. He promised he would be back. He never returned. When Operation Roger started calling two months later, her mother, Diana, didn’t know who we were and wasn’t about to just give Hazel to anyone. Smart move. Once she was satisfied we were legit and what was happening, they brought Hazel to Mark and he headed south.
Now Mark doesn’t run west. He was willing to take on getting Hazel out of Canada but how to get her on to California was the next problem. Mark S took her to Driver Sue W in Joshua, TX, who acted as a Layover Home waiting on another driver to go west through Ft. Worth.
In August, Sue and Hazel were featured in a photo shoot for American Profile-Texas Profile. Jane said Hazel is on an important mission by going to CA to help in the project to rescue children around the world who are victims of severe fire burns. Hazel's part in the project is to remind everyone that when there is a fire burn victim, e-mail their name, place, and date of birth, plus a photo, even from camera phones, to fireburnhotline@aol.com. This article, highlighting Operation Roger, came out in late November 08, showed a picture of Hazel and Sue but said nothing about her mission. But, we just did above.
Driver Nancy R came through Fort Worth, picked up Hazel, and delivered her safely to Alison, a dear friend of Jane’s, who owns Hazel’s mother. Nancy reports Hazel recognized Alison and was so happy there was not a part of her little body that was not wiggling. Now, the next surprise for Hazel will be the reunion with Jane when she is able to move to California.
